Would this collecting project be too ridiculous to attempt?

I have been considering starting a new collection: a player collection of Duke great Jay Williams. I have virtually nothing of him right now. I was a huge fan of his in college but focused most of my collecting efforts on his teammate Shane Battier. I am also a big fan of finite collecting goals. Williams only had 2 years worth of cards (roughly 300 total cards), but he came out to incredible hype so a lot of them are RC autos and some co-signed with expensive legends, whereas Battier signed an exclusive auto contract with Topps and thus only had 7 RC autos, none of which were even numbered... Him only having 2 years worth of stuff appeals to me and a casual ebay search tells me the prices reflect those of someone who was out of the league within two years, and I like affordable.

I would assume 1/1s and SSPs are probably out of the question by now, but given the fact that I have all of like 3 cards of his right now and all of the stuff came out some 10 years ago, is this even worth attempting? Would you try something like this?

Should I go for it? Should I not? Why/why not?

Haha, yeah. I think I'm more trying to determine whether it would be too frustrating to find some of the more obscure cards at this point. Player collecting is tough for anyone, but if you have a box full of rare Jay Williams you probably won't go through the trouble of eBaying it... I had a hard time finding a lot of the Battier stuff I have until the Heat won a few weeks ago... a lot of obscure stuff came out. This isn't something that'll happen with Williams, I'd imagine.

Some stats: 52 Autos, 13 of which are numbered to 15 or less (effectively unobtainable), 9 more #/25. 259 cards total not counting Press Pass & SAGE crap. 53 cards numbered to 25 or less. Assuming all #/25 or less were lost causes, that'd make this a 206 card project with 31 autos. Doesn't sound so bad when I think of it that way. Of course that assumes I'd want to concede those 53.
