Should Derek Jeter be a unanimous selection? Absolutely, there is no question that he is 1st Ballot Hall of Famer, so everyone with a vote should make the right decision and vote this way.

Should he be the first? No way, there should have been others before him who were just as deserving, if not more, of being a unanimous selection.

WILL it happen? Nope. There will be those whose egos get in the way and think they are making a statement by not voting for him.

Not a chance. Too many people hate the Yankees. Plus DJ probably bonked someone's wife anyway...

I don't see how any voter will not give a vote for Greg Maddux. He is the first unanimous Hall of Famer.

It's already a crime that Ruth, Gehrig, Musial, Mays, and Aaron are not.

IDK who exactly but there have been reports over the years of Sportwriters who have said to other writers that no one deserves to be Unanimous...

And Jeter has too many folks that would not vote for their own biases (or jealousy) to make History.

Everyone here is so cynical. If I'm voting the year he's eligible and I get 10 votes and there are 11 guys I think are worthy I'm going to leave off the guy who I know everyone else is voting for. It doesn't have to be someone on an evil mission. Many writers are faced with "only able to pick 10" issues each year.

Derek is a very popular and beloved player, even by the media. I can see him pulling 95% or higher.

Absolutely not, I agree with 200lb, but for this ERA Cal Ripken Jr. was the unanimous choice to get in and he didn't get a perfect record.

Players are going up against these forms of thinking:
1. He'll get enough votes already, I'll vote for someone else
2. No Player deserves to be a first ballot
3. This era had steroids and you can't be too careful (abstain or vote for someone in their last year of eligability)
4. Meh...he's a Yankee and he's on the best team money could buy so his numbers are inflated (aka Hype)

I got a laugh out of the Nolan Ryan/Cal Ripken argument. Maybe the two most overrated top tier HOF'ers in my terrible opinion.

It will never happen. There are some writers that feel no player is worthy of the unanimous vote so they will vote no. Of course it is too easy of a way for someone to get attention as well.

I felt Cal would be as good of a shot but even he could not please everyone.

Ted Williams was a players player.. He was a veteran of war.. He only drew 93%.

I think jeter is a 1st ballot guy but I also think his hype outweighs his skill. He did everything well and was very clutch. He was a huge pieve in all those championships.. But I certainly don't think anyone feared him at the plate, on the base paths, or in the field. If babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and Ty Cobb cannot get in 100% not a chance in hell Jetz does.

Yeah their stats suck.

Cal is a great HOFer but was a lifetime .276 hitter. If you take the emotion out of the equation, the numbers tell you he wasn't an absolute legend.
Nolan is a great HOFer but had nearly as many losses as wins and walked the most batters in history.

To say that Cal Ripken or Nolan Ryan are more deserving to have a 100% vote than, Williams, Mays, Ruth, Cobb, etc... is just humorous to me.

No one said they are more deserving but there is no way we can go back in time to give them more votes which by your definition we should never 100pct anyone ever simply because different writers didn't vote for some people in the past....which I find equally humerous

The thing with Cal is that he gets punished for longevity. It is hard to be one of the best options available for so long a period of time. It is difficult to make it to the majors, much less stay there. To call Cal's career overrated is absurd. On that note there is more to a career than stats.

Listen fellas, I would vote Cal, Ryan, Jeter, and even Barry Larkin in first ballot if I could. I'm simply stating why they weren't 100%ers. It's already been said but the old curmudgeons will guard that 100% like the Knight of the Templar did the Holy Grail. It's all really a moot point.
