It's a cool relic no doubt, but why would Topps pay the parents to get a piece of this.
They were ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution for being idiots (essentially.) Glad Topps could support the idiots!

Sales show that when this first came out they were getting 30-50 bucks. But have since dropped of course as more showed up. And 33 have closed in the pass week July18th thru today July 25th for around 4.24 average some sold higher and those were some bin/bo's But some on auction are over that now, but still I don't see many selling for more the 10 again and that would be pushing it.

And there seems to be over 30 of them on the bay right now. So maybe since the article came out these will see an up tick, but not back to the price they first were at do to first ones to list values.

Actually funny story, topps never bought this balloon from the parents. A local card shop was stupid enough to buy the balloon to try and use it to get "publicity" into his store, He was actually trying to sell each piece for 10.00 in his store. Im not exactly sure what the size of the piece was. However I will say that this owner is a very odd duck to say the least. For the reason the balloon relic being in ginger, some how he Conned topps into purchasing the balloon. Wether it was the whole thing or half of it, i haven't been in his store to find out.

Actually Topps looks for the interesting things to put in Ginter set and has done for years. So I don't think he conned Topps into anything, nor did he break the bank on it either.

I agree topps does look for interesting thing to put into ginter. However from what I have heard locally, he has to press topps several and ended up talking them into to purchase the ball. In the end, did he break the bank, no... It was definitely beneficial to him because he was able to get his investment back that he thought "he was going to break the bank on", and now his ceiling doesn't look like it is caving in where the balloon would have been.
