DC is pretty much out on Grienke. The Brewers are going to want to much, and Washington has a bigger need for backup catcher and backup MI. If Washington wants him, they'll take their chances after he tests the market.

I agree, we need to get 1st round talent for Greinke or else just keep him and we get the sandwich pick in 2013 draft.

I would be happy with just Olt. Toss in Buckel and I would piss myself.

Based on what I have read surrounding the situation, it sounds like Melvin would be very happy with just Olt as well.

I think if he WILL agree to sign an extension, then more than a few teams will be willing to offer up a package of youth to the Brewers.

As it stands, I really think Texas and Atlanta are the top two teams that are in the hunt for Greinke, can offer a great prospect (if there is no re-signing agreement) or package of prospects (Delgado OR Teheran plus from Atlanta, Olt/Grimm/Perez/Buckel/Odor, etc.).

I'd prefer to see him stay in the NL or go to the AL Central (weaker opponents, he's already familiar with the territory, etc.).

I still think they will clean house with Greinke. Several GM's have said that the new CBA rules wont stop a team from giving up a ton.

Odor is too young. With how the Brewers run their minor league system he wouldn't reach the Brewers for another 5 or 6 years. I'd rather have a draft pick instead.

I can't argue that it's against the organizational philosophy to move really young guys quickly. But they also haven't had any really young guys that have behooved moving quickly lately. Plus there's exceptions to every rule.

Odor is (mostly) showing the maturity at the plate to behoove moving quickly. Plus, how many high-ceiling SS prospects are there? 2.5-3 years (potentially, it's still real early for a firm projection) is not long at all.

Last 10: 3-1 3.41ERA 58.0IP 53/12 K/BB

That stat is skewed by the fact that in one game he made like 1 pitch.

I don't really care to debate whether he's good or not. He's fine. He's just not all that, and all I was saying was that Washington wasn't going to give up much for him because, maybe, he'd fit in as the third best pitcher on the staff next year.

But seriously. He's fine. I'm sure your favorite team will get something WONDerful for him. Just not from Washington.

Fine? I'm not sure you realize how good Zack really is...

NL Rank:

K/9 - 9th
FIP - 1st (1st in MLB)
xFIP - 2nd (2nd in MLB)
Pitcher WAR - 1st
GB% - 7th
BB/9 - 13th
K's - 8th

And the stat MAY be skewed because of the Ejection Start. Or, he may have dominated even further. So let's just toss that out.

Then we can also toss out his one good month which puts him at 6-4 with a 4.22 ERA. He hasn't looked great, his July has been disastrous, and it really hasn't hurt that his team has scored 5+ runs in 13 of his 21 starts. He's good, but not great and he's coming into the trade deadline with a lot of questions surrounding him. You don't really want to grab a guy that needs 9 days off a a time to get right.

In case you couldn't read sheetskout's post, it said he has the BEST WAR this year for any pitcher (including all of his "not-good" months). He also has the BEST FIP and SECOND-BEST xFIP in all of the major leagues. It's a shame he hasn't done better though since you've obviously watched every one of his starts in great detail - what a waste of time for you.

Throw in a mediocre career (once you throw out his one "good" season), and I can see why you think he has a lot of questions surrounding him. Questions like "what team will he get traded to?", "which prospects will the Brewers get in return?", "how did Frow come to the conclusion that he needs 9 days off at a time to get right when he has done that all of one time this year and yet is the major league's best pitcher in 2 categories?"

...probably because he just sat for 9 days and then pitched well for the first time in a month.

Right. Because if it just happened once, and he didn't need 9 days to "get it right" in at least 11 other starts this year, you would obviously use the sample size of 1 instead of the sample size of 11.

In the 11 other starts it wasn't 4 days to the trade deadline where a contender has to decide if they want to mortgage their future to get less than half a year with a player their own manager stated was more routine orientated than most.

BTW are you OK...taking your meds?
