Again... Ive been away for a few days so I dont know if this was posted under a title Id know right off the bat... I did check 5 pages back and didnt see it... but I might have missed it.

Starting October 1st eBay will charge a fee for ending an auction early and selling it off eBay to save the fees. Pretty smart way they are doing it...you do get 1 a calendar year on rare occasions.

  • Starting October 1, sellers will be charged a fee to end an Auction-style listing early if it has received a bid.

  • The fee will equal the amount of the final value fee had the listing ended naturally and sold for the highest bid received when the seller ended the listing.

  • In rare situations, a seller may need to end a listing early, so the fee will be waived the first time a seller ends a listing early each calendar year

How they will calculate the fee for a 1/1 or a really low numbered card that hasnt surfaced in a while will be interesting... but either way you wont get off withput paying something.

How are they screwing anyone? It's their site can you fault them for wanting to keep the money in their pocket?

They say its to keep the integrity of the auctions.

More they added>

---> Buyers will be required to contact you first before opening a Buyer Protection case.

So, if it's a BIN/BO and you end it with NO offers...no fees right?

How about if an auction with one bid for $.99 is ended early...the seller pays the final value fee for a $.99 sale?

yeah, not sure how this is screwing anyone. It's protecting ebay. You are using THEIR business to get YOUR product the attention you wouldn't get anywhere else. If someone contacts you through ebay to do a deal offline, that would have never happened without ebay and they don't get a cut.

From a business standpoint, it's a great move on their part.

No... any auction that ends without a bid or being bought via BIN/BO... will not have a fee.

If the $.99 card regularly sells for $25... im sure you get charged the FVF for a $25 transaction... which is what.. $3??

Resorting to name calling over something as petty as this, dude?

Obviously, I was wrong by saying they were "screwing" people.

Does that make you feel better?

I say good. 1) it prevents people from taking stuff I was bidding on, and 2) if I'm selling, and someone wants to do a deal off eBay, I'll simply slap them with this rule and add it to the price; what's the worst that can happen, my item still sells if the buyer walks? And the fee for ending early will most likely be less than what it would have been anyway, plus my item still sells (and maybe I take a money order and save PP fees).

And I'm liking the "contact first" stipulation for buyer protection. I just hope it's not a simple form and there has to be substance to the response; not "1,2,3," BOOM, message sent, gimme my money.

I don't like it. Is it just for auction style listings or buy it nows as well?!? I guess you could just accept an offer of a penny or something but still, that sucks, too many hustlers could take advantage of this.....

All you should love this from ebay, it should stop the sellers who end auctions early because they don't think they are going to get top $$ for their card.
I've had to many instances where I was high bidder on a card with a low bid when the auction ended - usually on the last day of the auction.

But then again this may lead to more sellers not listing mid priced cards ($40 - $100) at .99 and letting it run, but rather starting it at or near the price they want for the card.
Will be tougher to find or get good bargains @ auction style

Then I'm good on the first point. On the second...I think that's way too much work for ebay to "guess" what a card would sell for if it's a rare one.

What it you ended an auction even though you had a Bid on it. But you truly don't have the card anymore.
Last year I had to end one and almost to, because I truly forgot I mailed them to a board member. I listed when cards become hot and I already had scans in my Photobucket.

Also some sellers list a boat load of stuff and sometimes only have 1 copy but turbo list 100 cards and there is bound to be mistakes. So even though they have bids on 3 cards and only have one. But they see the mistake and end the other to, then they would get charged for there mistake.
Not a good thing if I was a big selling on ebag
I don't see how they are really going to do it all.

Yep.. that's only a guess on my part. But I agree with you about rare cards. Say you end a 1/1 auction early of Clliff Lee... and they look and see a similar card of Griffey Jr and charge you that price? It could get interesting if people end auctions early.

Check Mahoody post, you are charged based upon the highest bid when you canceled the listing.

Charged a separate fee for NOT selling an item? This doesn't even seem legal. What if the item is lost or damaged? This is kind of crazy. You would be better off just letting the auction end and telling the winner the card was lost/stolen so you get your fees back with a cancellation
