You guys think anybody is crazy enough to try and put this set together? I would think it to be almost impossible. Thoughts?

A few of the ones i sold on Ebay i was talking with the buyers who were going to attempt the set. One guy is doing both the Gold and Black set.

It's a Topps set. Someone will try.

I hope not. I was lucky enough last night to negotiate for the /5 of Josh Johnson. Cost me $30 though, but I know from my Dennis Nortchutt days, that if you don't get a low numbered parallel of a player you collect, you may never see it again.

Ditto. Feel very lucky to pick up my guy for $10. I knew I had to grab the 1st one that I saw because if there are people trying for the set out there then it would drive up the price.

I haven't kept up on Upton purchases this year but I did get the mini silver for a very affordable $25.

I need the Bronson Arroyo if anyone sees it! Seen three plates but none of the platinums.

I doubt anyone will try to complete the set. Would be ridiculously expensive if they did and no room for losing out on many as you may never see one again.

With that said, I won the Pujols/Chipper/Andruw Active HR leaders for under $40 delivered which I considered a half decent price. While I know I likely wont see the card again, I tried flipping it for double and had no offers in 7 days. So I will just keep it. Kind of glad noone made an offer. :)

If ever a #/5 set could be assembled, it's this one. They come out every box, not every case or whatever, and there's a lot of breaking going on. But it's never going to happen. Too many things can happen to never connect the right card with the right person.

They are 1 every 3 boxes, but I get your point. It's why the sale values on them are low right now b/c ebay is flooded with them. I'd put money that in about 2-3 years, these are going to be the new 2006 UD F/X blues - only 5x more valuable.

I think if you have a notable star (Jeter, Arod, Chipper, Pujols and so on) I would keep them. I see these heading into BIG money territory. You have the player collectors and set builders. Take for instance Jeter, how many HARD CORE collectors does he have? Way more than 5 and if somebody is trying to put the set together that just adds to the fire. Then you have the team collectors. That is a lot of attention for a card with a print run of 5.

There's almost always some guy or guys who look like they're trying to put together an impossibly rare set when it first hits the 'bay. The only things that ever happens from this is that 1) all cards from that set see an initial price surge 2) the set gets a lot of buzz. Its a great way to market a set.

It always seems that the guy(s) who initially attempt to put the set together wind up selling whatever they have 3-4 weeks later!

I see the base, golds, and platinums being big later. Even the base cards are relitivily rare. 2,500~ for the base. That's not many. Most guys sign twice as many base chrome autos. Just think about that. I realize they aren't signed, but they are gonna be pretty hard to find later on, and could be a lot higher priced than a dollar for most stars.

Posts like this make me want to figure out how to hold onto my 341 boxes for as long as possible.
