Interesting list...not saying all of these guys can't get to 3,000 but highly unlikely they all do. Holliday definitely has the potential with his career .313 BA, but I think he started just a couple years too late and will fall a few hundred hits short.

I could see everyone on that list but Holliday and Rollins. If Rollins would've played the past 3 years like his MVP season, he would've been on my list. But he's nothing but a mediocre hitter and an above average defensive shortstop and has been for a while.

And this is coming from a big time Rollins fan. I don't see him getting 2,750 either.

Like I said earlier, Reyes can do it but will have to be an everyday player the rest of his career. Cano is fully capable of doing it but he might catch "Alfonso Soriano" disease in this mid to late thirties and just not care. He's already showing signs of it now.

Starlin Castro already has 500 hits and he's only 22. Still a loooong way away but out of the young crop of superstars, he seems like he's got the best shot if he keeps it up.

Cabrera is that thick cheerleader that was cute in high school. She went to college and comes back home +15 pounds. Nothing terrible, but over time she continues to pack on pounds and by the times she's 30 you wonder what went wrong.
Only thing is that most of those pounds on Cabrera are pure muscle.

I'd be curious to see how many people in MLB history had 500 hits at the age of 22.

Found what I was looking for.

Only seven players who began their career since 1900 reached 500 hits at a younger age than Castro (22 years, 167 days old): Mel Ott (21 years, 149 days), Ty Cobb (21/248), Al Kaline (21/250), Robin Yount (21/297), Buddy Lewis (21/345), Cesar Cedeno (22/80) and Bobby Doerr (22/158).

Kaline, Yount, and Cobb all made it to 3000 hits, plus Ott came up just short at 2876. Looks like Castro has about a 50% chance of making it.:)

Can you imagine how much Cesar Cedeno cards would demand today if he started his career in 2009 exactly like he did? Like if he had Bowman Chrome autos and such.

I never realized how good he was early in his career. Through Age 27:

.291/.350/.466
Hits = 1299
HR = 142
Runs = 720
RBI = 617
SB = 397
OPS+ = 131

Plus he had 5 gold gloves before he hit 27.

Yeah, I never got to watch him play but just studying his stats, it makes you wonder how he didn't have a HOF career - was there an injury?

But can you imagine how much a gold refractor auto of his would sell for today after the first four years he put up? Going into 2013 as a 23 year old, 4 years under his belt and the last 2 years hitting .320, 20 HR 50 SB, OPS of .910+ and a Gold Glove shortstop!!!

I don't think there was an injury, I think there was an incident where he may have shot and killed his girlfriend or something.

From Wikipedia.

On the negative side, Cedeño's career was hampered by an aggressive fielding style which often led to injuries. His time in the majors was also dogged by an incident in which his gun discharged in a motel room, killing his girlfriend.

Yeah, the collecting community would not have been able to ignore him, even playing in Houston. Another example of how hard it is to put together a HOF career.

Last night, Jeter tied Willie Mays for 10th on the all-time hits list. (11th if you count Cap Anson, which ESPN and most lists don't for some reason).
