Good. My problem with Yunel wearing that is that he shouldn't be wearing something like that while at work. If I showed up at work with a statement that was racist or offensive in any manner, you bet your ass I'd get fired. If the rest of you all aren't offended by what it said that doesn't matter. It just takes one groundskeeper to be offended, and the Blue Jays and Escobar will get sued for harassment.

a gay groundkeeper ? Highly unlikely....

How about a groundskeeper who is just offended in general by it? You don't have to be gay to be offended by what he had written. I used a groundskeeper as an example but there are many employees in a ballpark of diverse ethnicity and sexual orientations.

I'm actually surprised nobody on the Blue Jays roster or staff said anything to Yunel about this prior to taking the field. I don't believe having silver writing on eye-black is common practice, and if I was in the dugout I would have at least been curious as to what it said. I don't condone Yunel's actions, but I'm assuming a few people had to have seen this display and opted not to say anything/take any action.

Nonetheless, this is Yunel's bad. It's unfortunate for the Blue Jays organization that they are in the news today about this, while the Yanks, Orioles, and Rays are in the news for being in the pennant race.

For all of you that say "big deal", "who cares", etc. What would your take be if President Obama, or Romney said, or did this? Would it be different? Or is it just acceptable because he is a baseball player? Or is it acceptable for anyone? Just curious.

If "The Mitter" came to a rally decked out in fake eye black with anything written on it, I would be embarrassed for 'Merica.

So, we hold athletes in the same regards, same standards, as the President of the United States?

Shouldn't everyone be held to the same standard? Regardless of his reasons it was an unacceptable phrase to use and it should be unacceptable for anyone to use it.

I was asking if the thought process that it is okay because they are just ball players is just for them? Or for people we hold in higher regards? Where is the cutoff? Is it okay for a kids in school to bully others and call them XXXgots? I just wonder where the line is in many of your opinions?

If you can sit here and honestly say it is the conduct of a grown man, a professional athlete, a person of means, of a role model, of a person who represents millions of fans, is suitable, then I would question your mental capacity.

Do I think it is the end of the world? Nope. Do I think it nuts for a professional athlete to be so insanely ignorant and stupid? Yep.

Here is my 2....

As a public figure that has a job/life that requires TV/public notariety, one should be more careful in what they do. Having said that, people need to grow thicker skin. If both sides of the coin just bent a little in these respective directions then the world would be a better place. It just seems utterly fruitless to me to argue this as imperical, coming from either side.

I agree. If one of my employees showed up and wore something that showed a message was offensive to others - whether or not it was offensive to me - I would definitely sit them down and ask them to remove it.

In many workplaces, they would be fired on the spot.

Except for homosexuals. We all know the group alienated by a phrase still has the ability to call those within their ranks any derogatory phrase they want. We see it with the N word, the F word (rhymes with rag), the W word (rhymes with net rack).. thy do it with little outrage from society.

And while we are all up on our high horses how can this situation raise the ire and dander so quickly? When the images I am posting have been acceptable for 60+ years with no suspensions..

So let's get fired up over these photos which is just as slurious! <---- made up word!

Im not defending what he did. All Im saying is that it doesnt surprise me one bit, I know many pro athletes and guess what? The are just like everyone else. So it doesnt surprise me one bit. I also dont really care about Escobar, or what he feels about homosexuals. Let me ask you something though, Escobar, like many foreign born athletes grew up in poverty. WWhat do you think they feel about glutonous people in the stands, people stuffing their faces with food they dont need while there are billions of people starving on this planet. Is that not as bad as what he did? Is glutony better than writing something stupid on your face?

I would say the term is used 99% of the time to describe a heterosexual male.

I don't think it is acceptable but I also don't think it's that big a deal.
