Think this will make for an interesting thread. The 3 favorite basketball cards in your PC. Super high-end, regular base, doesn't matter. Just your 3 favorites. And maybe a little story about why you like them so much.

My PC centers around 2 former University of Memphis players, Chris-Douglas Roberts and Joey Dorsey. I've grown up bleeding Tiger Blue, through the bad times and the good. The 2007-08 NCAA runner-up team was like a beacon of hope to me, and the rest of the city. I've never experienced a more fun time. Went to every home game except 2 of them, and all of the conference tournament. Was an awesome experience all season. I think that explains this first card well:

Scan 125.jpeg

Joey Dorsey was an animal for most of that year. Not as good as CDR/Rose, but always fun to watch, always smiling, and he seemed to really love the University and the city of Memphis. Gotta love this card that is signed with one of his nicknames:

Now I'm too young to have seen Larry Finch play, so all the stuff I hear about him comes from my dad, grandpa, etc. Larry Finch, to an extent, is Memphis basketball. But his legacy also carried on off the court as well. Being born and raised here in town, his decision to go to Memphis came at a critical time, when racial tensions were still high after the MLK assassination. His decision and play did a lot to bring the city somewhat back together. He led the team to an NCAA Title Game, and even though we lost to UCLA and Bill Walton (my grandparents and parents still hate him to this day), Larry is hands down one of the most important people to ever play/coach at Memphis. Plus, gotta love the 70's flair of this card, right?

Top 3 for me...pulled all of them myself.

My first Kobe autograph, a really tough pull from 99-00 Ionix.

KobeIonixAuto.jpg

Kobe Exquisite ASG auto patch /24.. Love the overall eye appeal. The card features a full Kobe signature, it's my all time favorite player and includes a really nice ASG patch. The card was only available in Kobe hot boxes. The hot boxes themselves were autographed by the player. The boxes were numbered to the players jersey number and include the patch auto /jersey number, an auto /jersey number, a base card and dual GU card of the player and a random RC patch auto. I pulled this card up in a Kobe hot box a few years back..

My overall favorite, really needs no explanation...

Thank you! The Jordan is from the 1989 Chicle Metalicas Spanish set. There was one NBA foil, either player or team logo, wrapped in pieces of gum, similar to a bazooka comic. There are 3 different foils with Jordan; in action, head shot, and a cameo on the Buck Williams. These are very rare, and to some are considered one of the Jordan "White Whales." Here are a several others, as well as a wrapper, the box that they came in, and an ad sheet, that I have scanned.

Nice cards. It's always fun to read stories about people valuing cards because of what they mean or what memories they bring back instead of "I sold off prospect x for a sweet profit so I bought this card." I was rooting for CDR when he came out of college.

Absolutely sweet cards. As a Boston fan I can't say I'm a big Kobe fan, but I have to respect him for being the 2nd best SG in NBA history. I'm hoping my C's get to face your Lakers in the finals again this year.

Here are mine, not in any order:

199899-099.jpg

Paul Pierce 1998-99 Flair Showcase Row 0 Legacy RC
Not sure what it is about this specific card, but I find it to be just a really great looking card. The refractor like finish underneath the thicker clear coating creates a 3D like depth to the card. Then the fact that it's a RC, and a fairly rare one at that, makes it my favorite card in my Pierce collection. I remember as a kid my family would always go camping the same week as the NBA draft, so I'd check the newspapers the week before we left and then be excited to get the paper at the campground the day after the draft and read all about the Celtics picks. The year Pierce was drafted I remember being completely pumped after reading how he could have been a top 3 player in the draft, but he dropped to the Celtics near the end of the lottery. Pierce is the iconic Celtic of my generation, and my collection brings back the memories of good times (game winning shots, a championship, and many great games).

Michael Jordan 2008-09 UD Black 50 Greatest Signatures

I got turned onto this set by scanning ebay while wanting to pick up my first John Stockton auto. He was my favorite player growing up, and I still didn't have an autograph. I found this set, and loved the look. The silver on black autograph, crisp design, 50 greatest foil logo, and a great list of players. I decided to go for the set and got my first Stockton, Bird, Magic, Olajuwan and others. This was the last card I got in the set, and it was also my first MJ auto. I've since gotten other autos of the guys in this set, but this is still my one and only MJ and I like it so much I don't need another.

Rondo06Exquisite.jpg

Rajon Rondo 2006-07 Exquisite RC
Rondo is the next great Celtic, and an absolute pleasure to watch every game. I love the swagger he plays the game with, the tough defense, and the fact that he'd rather get a bucket for someone else than himself. I went to a preseason game Rondo's rookie year, and remember him getting in the game and getting tripped on one of his first drives to the basket. It just lit a fire under him and he got back on defense, got a steal and transition layup. Went back on defense and got a rebound, and another transition layup. Then the next offensive possession he set up the offense and then cut through three guys for a layup. I new he was something special after seeing that. It's the best rookie card of my favorite Celtic to watch play right now.

1. Topps stadium club '97 Jordan/Stackhouse refractor.... I got a hobby box for 8th grade grad. present and the first whole box I ever broke open...had a few base rookies but this was the best pull from that box...

2. Jason Kidd classics gold...growing up in the Bay Area, ca I followed Cal Basketball, Kidd is my favorite player from Cal and this was my first rookie I pulled of his back then...

3. Tim Hardaway nba hoops rookie cards... My favorite all-time Warriors player

My single favorite Teague.

DSCN2261.jpg

Just got this in the other day. Still need 4 cards to finish this set, but it doesn't get any better than this:

ScannedImage122920000.jpg

This is my all time favorite. I pulled this out of a single blaster box I picked up on eBay. The blaster was 10 packs + 1 bonus pack. This was in the bonus pack, and I had already pulled the Jalen Rose from this set in the same box.

Not my most valuable (save the Lebron), but love the Love's (really like his SPA as well, but not as much as the exquisite or UD Black golds)

:o Some of the cards in this thread!!!!

Not necessarily by value - just favorite.

Grew up during the heyday of UNLV basketball - gotta love the Shark. He's like the Al Davis of college basketball. :D Was happy to land an auto (on card no less!!).

JerryTauto3.jpg

Once again - a favorite from my childhood. Anyone else remember this guy in the slam dunk contest back in the day???? Should have beat Dee Brown!! :p

Chapmanauto2.jpg

Last but not least, my boy AI. Saw this guy break ankles in person his rookie year and have been a fan ever since. Have always been a big Credentials guy and was really happy to land this.
