Why do companies seem to think making a card thicker makes them "high end"?

Kind of sick of this with base cards. If there is no GU in a card, WTF make them so damn thick? Finding the right sized toploader is a pain in the ass, they take up more room, and seem to be more easily damaged. What's the point?

I think cards from a premium brand being a little thicker is a nice touch, but I agree, the 100pt thick base cards need to go.

I absolutely hate the super thick cards. Living in a place where top loaders are not readily available, it really sucks. Not to mention that they come out of packs chipped, winged and barely NM all around.

Traded Hank Aaron tribute triple bat/au to a noob. He emailed me complaining about the windows around the bat pieces not being perfect and chipping on one edge. All of which was very apparent and noticeable in the scan I gave him, pointing it out.


Just can't stand it. I think the Heritage products are just about perfect thickness.

I think in some cases, it gives the illusion of being more valuable. Thought process goes something like this: "Anybody can get a standard size card but look, I got one twice as thick so it must be worth more!"

I think it is so to though of the pack searchers. :lol: I'm only a little bit serious. And I agrees it makes it hard to find a good top-loader for the card.

I don't really like thick cards. I don't like thin cards. Topps Heritage is pretty much perfect because of the non glossy and nice thickness. I have heard it is a very expensive product to make though. Topps Lineage is too thin.

I don't mind them in moderation for very high products like UD Exquisite and maybe Topps Five Star this year, but for a basic set they are annoying.

Sure, a little thicker is fine, but the thicker they get, the harder they become to store and the easier it is to damage them

The thickness of base cards doesn't really bother me, probably because I don't ever bust the products or ever consider buying the singles. What I really can't stand are what people call "booklets". That's the point in which they are no longer cards and I would never add one to my collection because they're silly. Though one could argue this whole hobby is silly.
