I'm not trying to make you or anyone else feel bad, but I'm just pointing out that flipping makes cards more expensive.

Flipping isn't a hobby by definition (see above), its a full-time or part-time job, its an occupation... that is, unless, one intends to lose money doing it LOL.

There's actually some people in this world who enjoy their occupation, seems like you've found one you enjoy.

Apparently, you can't even read your own post with the definition. It says "main occupation."

Anyway, I could care less what you think since you wish you lived in a GD Utopia and complain all of the freaking time about stuff you can't change.

Take it a step further. If wax wasn't busted by flippers, wouldn't fewer people be buying as much wax and wouldn't it cost less as a result? But even without all these flippers, the same big distributors and casebreakers would be there doing their thing and you'd have access to the same cards anyway.

With regard to your second point, how much are flippers increasing the cost of cards you're bidding on? Perhaps they're bidding $195 on the Luck cards in your sig with the intent to flip them for $400 with the third-highest bidder coming in at $100. Its not really just supply and demand... its also flippers protecting their interests at the expense of yours.
As usual, you are wrong.

If there was less wax, the boxes would cost more since the companies would need to make more profit from each pack/box/case to stay in business. Distributors, online sellers, shop owners, gamblers, flippers, and collectors are what have kept this "hobby" running for as long as it has been. Without each and every one of them, this "hobby" would either not exist, or a box of topps series 1 would cost $1,000.

By the way, the easiest way to make money in this hobby is to manufacture or distribute unopened wax.

For me I don't consider it a hobby if your only or main intent is to make money. That's just my personal feeling. But then again I do see the argument that it can still be considered a hobby the way someone might say they gamble or play the stock market as a hobby. Maybe it really is that there are two distinct hobbies and we're trying to cram them into one definition. One that is card collecting and another that you could maybe call card gambling or flipping. In fact maybe you could make a third distinct hobby called prospecting. As for the effect rip and flippers have on the hobby, I think they tend to drive the prices of individual cards down and drive up the price of boxes. I don't think they keep the price of boxes down. I mean I could be wrong but I think Topps sets their prices for boxes mainly based on cost. I mean they set their prices for a product before they even start taking orders. I think what happens with the rip and flip guys is they start buying up cases, limiting the supply of boxes and driving their prices up, then flood the market with individual cards driving their prices down. That's why I'm not a big fan of rip and flippers because as someone who likes to open boxes and build my own sets and pull my own hits, it's making it harder for me to justify collecting financially.

I love golf and gambling while golfing. It's not my job, so it's a hobby. I think some people are overthinking this way too much.

#1 should have been more specific because you will never make money buying large collections of mid 80's to mid 90's product which is what most people have for sale these days.

As usual you've failed to understand supply and demand (among other things).

'Nuff said.

But I agree that the easiest way to make money is to manufacture or distribute cards, everyone else is kept on a string.

Most of the people who talk about making loads of cash flipping and prospecting aren't.

who cares if you make money in a hobby. Some people get so bent if someone is making money in the hobby like your ripping off kids or the elderly. Who cares. Make or loose money if thats what you wanna do with your time then so be it.

As for me I buy and sell, prospect, and have a PC. I guess im all the above.

Best way to make money in this 'hobby' is to not buy. Use the money to invest/bury under your mattress...you'll likely do better in both scenerios.
