Hasn't been gangbusters for the M's either. You seen Monteros stats?

I'm petty sure that being on the Mariners automatically makes you suck. Lok at Ichiro this year for example.

Oh, and Montero was the Mariners Batting Average leader. Yeah, really.

I think the mariners fleeced the Yankees! But montero is far far far from what he was billed as! The same hype machine that made Austin Jackson and Jose tabata cant miss guys.. turned out another one with Jesus. They can play but they will never play to their hype.

To be fair, Jackson finally did live up to the hype this year.

I know what you mean though, that NY hype is in full effect quite often. Very few pan out to expectations which is why the Yankees have to sign 55billionz dollarz players. (Or trade away players that end up doing quite well, d'oh!)

With Montero as an apparent exception :)

Austin Jackson is one of the best centerfielders in baseball. Jesus' home/road splits speak to the Seattle impact and what might've been in NY.

I agree with the point you're making about overhyped Yankee prospects, but Jackson has been a very good ballplayer every year in the Majors. I think he's pretty much what people expected, and this year he was even better than expected.

There's no way Montero can live up to the Miguel Cabrera comparison, that was ridiculous in the first place, but I think he'll ultimately be a pretty tough hitter. He'll only be 23 next season and I bet he'll hit at least .275 with 20+ homers. Pretty good numbers for someone so young.

While I agree Ajax is playing good and I was wrong with the comparison. The Yankees have a history of making players attributes loftier than their actual skill set and thats what their supposed to do..

Splits are nice but until he no longer plays half his games in safeco he will not achieve the expectations the Yankees built. Projections of a full year don't push players across the plate.

I think the mariners screwed the Yankees but I don't think that montero is a monster.. I just think Pineda was damaged goods.
