I just learned of the existance of these yesterday, my LCS has a sealed factory set that mentions including three Limited Edition parallels. That's these:

Only difference seems to be the Limited Edition stamp. What is the deal with these? I can't find much on them, or many examples for sale. Is this a whole set parallel? Estimated print run? Sneaky-rare parallel like the UD Special FX Blues? I wasn't collecting when these came out so I don't know if there was discussion in the hobby about them.

And, more importantly, does everyone have their guys, or is this a new one on the list (like they are for me)?

I don't see the stamp on the Howard above, but its more plain here:

This info may help: First Edition parallels were inserted 1:36 Hobby and 1:12 HTA [in the update series] but were not serial numbered even though they are more scarce than the Golds

These aren't the same cards the OP is talking about. Many folks knew about the first editions (throwback to the old Stadium Club days). Check out his scan just underneath where it says "Ryan Howard." You'll see the words "Limited Edition" in foil. Tough to see, but there. I'm thinking these were from a Target/Wal-Mart-type factory set. These usually include an extra bonus of some kind. In recent years, they've been including either an exclusive manufactured patch or a refractor of some kind, but I believe I've seen them where they come with exclusive base cards, as well. Regardless, good find for the OP. A tough pickup, to be sure!

Gotcha, didn't even see that, obviously. Beckett doesn't have anything listed as Limited Edition at all. Just the 1st editions and the normal Gold, Black, Platinum. Interesting.

LOL. Never heard of them and I didn't even see the wording either. The OP said those limited editions came from a factory set.

This is the rarest 2006 Howard parallel I know of:

These are going to be hard to find. I doubt many factory sets were broken up. Here is an image of the set that states "Includes 3 Limited Edition Parallel Cards."

Topps did release a full set of "Limited Edition" cards in 2000...perhaps a long lost continuance of the Tiffany series, although these simply had a subtle foil notion like these shown here.

As for Beckett not having it...come on now. Beckett's relevance in the hobby today is only grading. That's it. That price guide rag is a nothing more than entrails of a rotten muskrat...and not in a good way.

Understood on the Beckett issue. I only use the site for the checklists because it's still the most comprehensive list you can find that I know of. I know it's not complete at all.

The 1st Edition were a one-per box parallel insert in the product that year. They didn't sell well at the time, but perhaps as the years pass player collectors will become more interested in them.

Are you sure it parallels the entire set? I saw these and thought they were parallels of the entire 2011 set (like the Diamond Anniversary Factory Set Limited Edition sets) but it includes only 5 cards:

I have the set in my closet somewhere. Picked it up from Target along time ago. I believe its a parallel to the whole update set. Although I haven't seen many for sale.

I'll have to check my set and see. At one time I had two sets, one opened and one sealed. I sure the hell hope I didn't trade off the limited edition cards if there were any to be had.
