Apparently David Price is in denial...

David Price ‏@DAVIDprice14
Guys guys guys there's been a huge misunderstanding...whenever we all wake up tomorrow Shields and WD40 will still be my teammates...😒😢

Good trade for both sides IMO....Rays have developed solid pitching but outside of Longoria no real big time hitters...The Royals now have a starter they can throw up against Verlander/Sabathia/Weaver Etc and give their team a chance to win with Shields...Don't underestimate Davis, he's a 3/4 on most other teams, he gave TB A+ bullpen arm which will be tough for them to replace...

Maybe Price is getting traded to KC, too.

Drayton Moore is going for it, and good for him and the Royals. Their team now has a chance to win with the pitching upgrades he acquired. The Royals were on the way to wasting their young talent with a garbage pitching staff. Now they have a shot at winning some games. As for the Rays, they cannot sign legit bats, so they had to trade for what they hope will be a stud hitter and did so from a position of strength. Both teams got exactly what they need.

This adds about 6-7 wins for next year, better hope Hosmer and Moustoukis have a huge bounce back season. Also they better find some more bats or they won't even break .500.

I think its a fair trade for both teams. Royals get immediate pitching and Rays receive solid prospects. But I'm surprised the Royals gave up Montgomery AND Odorizzi. Thought they would have only included one of the two.

The Royals pitching was terrible but what was even more terrible was that smiling POS Jeff Francoeur in right field. The Royals would have improved by much more just be releasing Frenchy, putting Myers in right field, and then spending the $15 mil or so that Shields and Davis are going to cost them and signing a couple of middling free agents. Not to mention that Odorizzi is pretty much MLB ready and would probably be about as good as Davis (who was terrible as a starter but was decent as a reliever -- but the same can be said for most struggling starting pitchers).

That's what they have been doing for years - Guthrie, Chen, Meche, Odalis Perez, Tomko, Ponson, Davies....they needed better options and the only way to do it was trade. You certainly are't going to bring a pitcher like Shields caliber through FA. They made the right move.

Yeah both teams get their needs....KC isn't going to win anything without a good starting rotation and now they have the pieces to finally put together a winning season. Rays take on more risk but get more potential upside.

For me I'm just glad that Shields is out of the AL East :D

Ditto. He manhandled the Orioles. Now we only have to face him once, maybe twice a year.

You can't trade shields for prospects or you gave up Myers and 2 projecting arms for more projects. I think they are going to run with shields and Davis.

I'm just glad they didn't trade Irving falu! Love that guy!

It's not Irving Falu was going to disappear if he got traded.

I think the Rays got a very good deal on this, and the Royals did, too, assuming they feel they can contend this year. This trade is probably a blessing for Mike Montgomery, and I think he can learn a lot from David Price. I think they are very similar pitchers, with the exception of their personalities. If Montgomery can tone down his emotions some to where Price is, it will be a HUGE benefit to him. But, I am biased, for J.P. and I have the same card (just different serial number). We have talked about both having this card, too. I will gladly share mine. :)

The Rays are getting killed on local sports talk over this deal....It's the old "prospects are just prospects until they are proven" mantra....I'm sure in KC it's the we gave up of future for a "Win it now" complaint...

Local radio hacks always gain more callers by going negative. Plus, the "Big Dog" is such an idiot that he claimed Joe Maddon is a bad manager, but Raheem Morris was an excellent coach.

I personally like the trade for both teams.

What will the Royals do now with their "glut" of starting pitching? What do they have now, 8 pitchers who were in rotations last year?
