Well that's what some people like to do. Discuss and prospect what could be a great player while others of us are collecting and buying great players for a fraction of the price. But some of those same people make out like bandits when these could be's turn out to be the real deal. Not much to say really. The chase is different for everyone.

Its interesting when there's (almost) an entire community focused on esoteric players considering the vast majority of the general public are obsessed with star players from every sport. What happens to a message board, for instance, that focuses heavily on esoteric players over time? Is it likely to grow to include new members?

Personally, its fair to say my collection is primarily esoteric MLB players, but as a type collector that's not all that unusual... but people focusing on esoteric MiLB players is very unusual indeed.

That may be one of the few times I've seen the word esoteric used and you managed to use it 4 times in your post.

I remember pulling the base refractors in back-to-back blaster boxes and thinking how awesome it was that here in Milwaukee there were regular old blasters that had these great cards of the best Milwaukee prospect. And how awesomely far-fetched it was that I got them both. I stopped celebrating my awesomeness not too long after that... but I think I still have one to remind me of that time.

After watching this guy in person for the last 3+ years, I can honestly say he might be one of THE biggest stiffs of all time. I seriously wonder if he doesn't have a learning disability of some kind. He swings at pitches in different zip codes, made some base running mistakes that made Manny Ramirez look like Lou Brock, never knew where to throw or play in defense, and generally looked lost and confused on the field. The Brewers must have been jumping for joy when my Indians insisted they get him for Sabathia. Even as a 26 year old in AAA he looks like a disaster.

That was me... I might still have the PM conversation saved. I was thinking "I'll pull some nice Moustakas cards!" The feeling I felt when I saw that card pulled... I can't even explain.

Anywho, Hi dave! Hope all is well!
