Yeah...me neither...I so hate the Mariners.
It all stems from back when I was in 5th grade, Went to the PX and I picked out a new, expensive, big, puffy blue Mariners starter jacket, wore it proudly to school the next day only to be a laughing stock when everyone else noticed it said, "MARIERS"...
I keep giving them chances, let them back into my life only to be disappointed. I am kinda getting tired of how awful they have been for so long...everyone talks about the same things, year in, year out...
Changes at the top must be brewing!

He was the league HR leader until he broke his finger.

and yeah.. worst owners you can possibly get. the only time Ive heard management say their primary goal is not to win a WS... wtf. A lot of people were pumped for this season... but all their new addons = injury prone guys. they spent all their money on a high def jumbo jumbo screen instead of quality players.

try being a Pirates fan for years and years and years

I'm a Cubs fan, quit whining!

Browns fan. Enough said.

I second this
okay, I see that there are others in similar situations, but I must add that at least you guys have history, and passion. You guys have "baseball"...Seattle has one or two blips of excitement in its history, and really not much passion. Ball games at Safeco Field are mere social events. When I look around, I feel like 70% of the people are not even watching the game.

That season in the Kingdome was crazier than Cameron Indoor

The point about Safeco is exactly right. Also, we're one of only two teams to have NEVER won a pennant.

That said, being a fan is frustrating, and every season around this time I wonder why I even follow them. I'd love to latch on to another team whose management cares about winning, but I just can't. I'm emotionally tied to the Ms.

By the way, weird timing for your rant. I mean, you could have written it a day earlier and it would have made sense, but following last night's game against the Astros, at least we got to see a blowout, nevermind it was the Astros.

Any team that can't win with Griffey, ARod, Buhner, Edgar and Randy in their primes ain't likely to ever win.

I guess that shows my lack of knowledge on this subject!! My assumption is that people, particularly the East Coast, are more passionate about the sport, the team and the city. Don't know why I have that assumption, it's just how I always pictured it.

I hear Cubs fans say this but it's not like you haven't had your chances. Cubs have made the playoffs quite a bit for being in the same division as the Cardinals, the good teams from Houston and Cincinnati...

Pirates, Orioles (until recently), Mariners, and Royals fans have had it rough for a very long time. Special nod to Marlins fans for dealing with that fiasco.

I don't ever remember Mike Morse being a superstar or labeled as one during his first stint, perhaps the prospectors did as much to flip cards. I met him back then a number of times and many times in Tacoma, always seemed like a great guy, but great guys don't mean great ballplayers. I hated that trade to the Nats from day 1, we could have gotten the same amount of production from Mike as we did Langerhans. You might also notice that the assistants he (Jack Z.) had during that time have been changed over. Ultimately it comes down to the GM but they didn't give him the best advise and they're gone or placed into other roles.

As for the comment on the new video screen, that isn't entirely true. They didn't spend a ton of money on free agents, true but the money for the screen is from a different budget. When the stadium was built there was a clause that stated the owners MUST spend x amount each year to keep the stadium up to date. That way they cannot pocket the money and let the field become outdated much like the Kingdome had become. The new video screen, the new Edgar's cantina, the neon name on the roof, etc. all parts of this stadium upkeep and that money has zero to do with player payroll money.

Unable to win in the 90's with all those guys in their prime, you have a point. It all came down to management and their refusal to spend on getting more pitching. We had many many chances to sign or trade for pitchers who would have helped. Those probably were the easiest years to win it all but they were being cheap so even though we could score runs like nobody's business we gave up even more.

As a season ticket holder, I see it like you guys say, it's more of a social event than anything. They expanded the beer garden this year, since this drew more people than the game itself as sad as it is.

I love that Griffey teal jersey, I'm a big fan of the teal alts. but I think my favorite jerseys are the ones from 1997, with the M's 20th anniversary and Jackie Robinson patches.

Sadly, my second favorite team is in fact the Marlins, I've been a fan since they announced the expansion and I got my first Clemente Nunez 92 UD card. Loria is worse for baseball than I think the M's bromance of Lincoln/Armstrong could ever be. I can't wait until they have a new owner(s) who cares about the team and game and makes winning a priority, I guess that could be said for both teams.

ah yeah that is true.. I forgot about that clause until now (had to look it up).... at least that makes me feel a little better.

I think it would be funny on FCB when the Mariners tank this year if there would be a member draft for all Ms fans to relocate their allegiance

I really would be happy to see a Pirates/ Royals WS. I know they've won it in the past but good lord, those poor fans can't even get a winning season!
