worst part is that the ump is in position to see that even if the 1B had caught the ball... he was off the bag. missed it twice. smh.

I think most umps watch the bag and listen for the ball-glove contact.

Exactly my point... I know they r watching bag for runner and listening to glove hence he didn't realize Grimm caught it not Moreland. If you look at replay from behind Andrus you can see that Moreland's foot is off bag @ time when he should've been catching the ball. Ump should've seen that if he's watching the bag for the runner. It is in his sight line.

Yet another reason for Instant Replay. Just think if this was a Playoff game or another shot at a Perfect game like Galaraga lost. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think there would be any delays in the game. Booth would be reviewing any calls as they happened and could tell the crew chief. With video evidence, managers wouldn't have much to argue. I also feel with the manager's coming out to argue calls, that delays more than a replay would. No balls/strikes, just fair/foul and home runs like they have now, and add outs/close calls at bases and caught/trapped balls. The umpires usually get it right, but obviously we have seen ones they have missed. Missed calls have cost Playoff games and even regular season games that could have had Playoff implications.

Exactly.

Even if it did take a little time Id rather have a 3:05 game that got it right than a 3:00 game with a screwy finish.
