Bad news for us Rays fans/prospectors. Hope he returns stronger than ever. :(

Now I know how you O's fans feel.

Guerrieri having Tommy John surgery
Taylor Guerrieri, an elite pitching prospect for the Tampa Bay Rays who has played this year at low-Class A Bowling Green, is having Tommy John surgery today, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Guerrieri went on the Hot Rods' disabled list Sunday after leaving his last start July 15 following two innings. He's 6-2 with a 2.01 ERA in 67 innings this season, including a streak of 25 consecutive scoreless innings.

Heard this might be the case, that velocity was way down. Guess all that babying and coddling of their young arms didn't work for the Rays this time.

I think the track record speaks for itself. They don't baby the arms, just give them innings/pitch limits that change each year with each level. No team has produced pitching close to as well over the past decade, they are doing something right.

Having strict pitch/IP limits absolutely can be translated as babying. And I didn't say it doesn't work overall, I just said it didn't in this case.

And the Cardinals might have a little something to say about the last part
