Ichiro hit # 2700 last night. He joined Jeter and Aroid as the 3rd active player to 2700 hits.

Arod might not even have a chance to get the last 99 hits to 3000.

I still think Ichiro can get to 3000. Just 2 more average seasons.

That's incredible.
Ichiro had 1,278 hits in Japan, so he's 12 hits away from 4,000!
He has a good chance to pass Pete Rose's record of 4,256.

If he played his whole career in MLB he would have so many records by now.

Since Ichiro is 10x the player Jeter is he has no problem getting to 3000.

No way. Ichiro and Matsui would have some crazy numbers if MLB counted the Japan years. I hope Ichiro keeps it up. Remember 2001? Pujols and Ichiro were the top rookies....look at their careers now.

Sadaharu Oh has 868 HR
Babe and Barry who?

Love that stat! I think Japanese players have to play 9 years in Japan before they can consider the MLB....or something similar to that. It's crazy that many star Japanese players have several years of numbers pre-MLB.

No, there's no year requirement.
It's done by the Posting system.
A Japanese player tells his team he wants to play in America.
The Japanese team can deny the request.
But if they consent, MLB teams must compensate the team with major money, like when the Rangers paid $51 million just for the rights to negotiate with Yu Darvish.

To be a true free agent players must put in 10 years of service. That's why it took Matsui 10 years to come over here. The other way is to retire in Japan and sign over here like Nomo. But that leaves a lot of resentment from the NPB.
