Morning all. Going to be pretty hot here today. Not much on the agenda except for going to the store and getting the car washed.
After a few months without adding anything to it, I added three more items to my Watergate collection this past week. I have a couple more incoming next week. There will probably always be a few that I won't be able to afford (Haldeman, Barker, et al), but I still have a good sized list of others that I can afford to get.
First, a signed business card by Earl Silbert, one of the lead prosecutors for most of the key figures
Then a matted photo/autograph card display of Nixon's personal secretary Rose Mary Woods. She was the one who "accidentally" erased 18 minutes from one of the key tapes that Nixon secretly recorded in the Oval Office. The segment is believed to have been a conversation with Haldeman which would have proven that Nixon was aware of the whole thing from the beginning and was actively involved in the coverup. Got a surprisingly great deal on this one
Lastly, I finally got a signed book by E. Howard Hunt. He was the one who served a lengthy term for gathering together the team of burglars/bunglers and overseeing the operation. He was an interesting guy. A former high ranking member of the CIA, he served overseas during some sketchy operations involving the overthrow of governments in the 1950's, and was a writer of somewhat formulaic, but pretty popular spy novels all during the time of Watergate and afterward. During the investigation, his wife was the go-between who pressured some of Nixon's top men to pay her husband and the wives of the burglars money for legal fees and compensation for the risks they took, and even resorted to threatening to give indepth interviews if they weren't paid off. Shockingly, in the middle of the whole thing, she happened to be on an airliner that crashed in Chicago, killing her and dozens of others. There was a lot of talk that the crash wasn't an accident. To be fair, of all the ones involved in the break-in, he may have been the one who got the rawest deal. This one wasn't cheap, but glad to add it.

Good morning all. A beautiful day in San Francisco. Heading downtown today, should be very interesting. A small group of us visited the Muir Wood National Monument in Marin County. Awesome trip. Going out tonight for dinner, celebrating my birthday with a nice prime steak.
