1959 Topps-Bob Gibson #514

Pink. That’s what I think of when I see this card. The iconic 1959 design encircling a young smiling Gibson in a shade of my grandmother’s blush is so wrong that it’s genius. You have to believe Gibson hated pink, because it seemed like he hated everything when he was on the hill. Some baseball historians regard Gibson’s prime as the pinnacle in pitching. His paper thin ERA and masterful Playoff and World Series performances are the stuff of legends. This card in slabbed in “EX” condition can be had for under $200.

1954 Topps- Ernie Banks #94

Banks is a Chicago icon. Mr. Cub is overshadowed in this classically designed set by the extremely popular Aaron RC, but for around $200 you can get a nice “GOOD” copy of this beautiful card. 1954 set does have its problems and if centering is an issue for you, you’ll need to search for copies that meet your needs. Mr. Banks also has a very nice signature and a bold blue autograph displays nicely on the white background.

1989 Topps Traded Tiffany- Ken Griffey Jr. #41T

Everyone and their brother have had their hands on the mass produced 1989 Upper Deck Junior. This card carries the Topps name and was released in the more limited Traded Tiffany Set. $50 will get you a nice PSA 9 version and sealed sets have been getting $125. Griffey has another great option in the Tiffany sector but the Bowman glossy will set you back much more. A recent PSA 9 copy sold at auction for $338. A strong sale considering the era in which these cards were produced.

Nice thread, and agree with all three. It's weird to think what you could get in say graded PSA 7 vintage HOF RCs for what the Buxton Super went for.

Buxton $8000

PSA 7 Banks $1800
PSA 7 Gibson $450
PSA 10 Griffey Tiffany $250
PSA 7 Koufax $1200
PSA 7 F Robinson $250
PSA 7 B Robinson $500
PSA 7 Clemente $3500

Nice lil stack of HOFs

One of these. Although I have one lying around somewhere it's not in good condition. This was the card I strived for as a kid.

Word. I've bought and sold more than I can remember. Don't currently own one but its only a matter of time before I buy another

Wow! The Tiffany Griffey PSA9 is only selling for around $50? I guess I need to pick one up. I sold my last one back in 2000-01 for over $900.

Clayton Kershaw 2006 Bowman Chrome AU RC

Although this card will fetch north of $100 raw, the kid is just 25 and on the verge of winning his second CY award. If he can continue even close to what he is now for the foreseeable future, that $100 or so buy in is going to seem like a steal. I can see this card topping $200 after the CY award this year (if and when he wins), but I believe this to be a 'must have' HOF card 15 - 20 years from now when he is voted in as one of the best pitchers of this, or any generation.

Great list. On Griffey Jr. though I really like his 89 Upper Deck the best. Here is a scan of mine. Wanted to add I still need to pick up the Tiffany versions sometime. I have all of his 89 Rookies graded 10's other than those.

id also like to add, if you plan on owning an Aaron or Mays RC, now is the time, as they both only have so much time left, then they'll bump in price again.

I'd definitely have to add George Brett, Paul Molitor, Eddie Murray and Rickey Henderson to the list.

Each of those can be had on the cheap as well.
