1959 Topps-Bob Gibson #514
Pink. That’s what I think of when I see this card. The iconic 1959 design encircling a young smiling Gibson in a shade of my grandmother’s blush is so wrong that it’s genius. You have to believe Gibson hated pink, because it seemed like he hated everything when he was on the hill. Some baseball historians regard Gibson’s prime as the pinnacle in pitching. His paper thin ERA and masterful Playoff and World Series performances are the stuff of legends. This card in slabbed in “EX” condition can be had for under $200.
1954 Topps- Ernie Banks #94
Banks is a Chicago icon. Mr. Cub is overshadowed in this classically designed set by the extremely popular Aaron RC, but for around $200 you can get a nice “GOOD” copy of this beautiful card. 1954 set does have its problems and if centering is an issue for you, you’ll need to search for copies that meet your needs. Mr. Banks also has a very nice signature and a bold blue autograph displays nicely on the white background.
1989 Topps Traded Tiffany- Ken Griffey Jr. #41T
Everyone and their brother have had their hands on the mass produced 1989 Upper Deck Junior. This card carries the Topps name and was released in the more limited Traded Tiffany Set. $50 will get you a nice PSA 9 version and sealed sets have been getting $125. Griffey has another great option in the Tiffany sector but the Bowman glossy will set you back much more. A recent PSA 9 copy sold at auction for $338. A strong sale considering the era in which these cards were produced.
