In no way should Olerud be in this discussion. Although he was a 3'rd round pick he was in no real way a 'Once-Big' Prospect. Also, he had a outstanding career that many will remember.

Love the card though!

now now. you dont remember how ON FIRE his 1990 Donruss was upon release?

I remember the big claim to fame around him was not spending any time in the minors. That and the hype created because the Blue Jays thought so much of him that were okay trading Fred McGriff.

And no, he should not be part if this thread. (I have a biased opinion though.)

Scott Thorman!!!!!

And no, a guy like Olerud has no place in this discussion. When I think of a forgotten prospect, I don't think of the guy who played 15 years but may not have lived up to extreme hype. I think of the guy who was hyped to hell and then completely sucked it up in the majors, or never even made it there. Like Michael Bowden, he's another good one. Or Jeremy Beckham. What the hell happened to him?

I fear Ryan Kalish may be on this list soon; he's missed so much time, and now is trying to recover from cervical fusion surgery. Doesn't look like he has a place in the Sox outfield, so if he comes back at all, it may have to be with another team.

Carlos Quentin? Are you just showing off your collection now? How's he "forgotten"?

I bet if TBP Uploaded 1 graded prospect card every hour on the hour, it would take a few years....

We should create a ranking of all these guys.

Here's my stab at a top ten --

Travis Lee, Ben Grieve, Billy Rowell, Pat Burrell, Rick Ankiel, Matt LaPorta, Andy Marte, Todd Van Poppel, Brien Taylor, Ryan Harvey ??

I don't think Pat Burrell deserves to be mentioned on the top list at all.

I'd put him on, despite his eventual decent career. I'm pretty sure his 1999 Fleer Mystique RC was a $100 card on release, maybe even more. He was the 1999 equivalent of Yasiel Puig and Bryce Harper having a baby made of pure awesomeness...unfortunately, he liked striking out too much to live up to the hype.

Yeah Burrell had a long career, but overall a bust vs the 1st year or 2 of card hype. It can be said if a lot if people but his is pretty dramatic.

pat burrell has three world series rings and a gigantic pile of dough

He's not a forgotten prospect

Exactly.

Is this thread about highly touted prospects, or has it morphed into guys' who had High Selling Cards at their Debut, but have lower values now? (i.e. 99.9% of players). Cuz Pat Burrell and Carlos Quentin may be the latter, but definitely not the former.

I think the thread morphed into a lot of things..... A ton of these guys being listed were not highly touted and a lot were never heard of really in the card world either. I agree Quinton, Burrell, and some others were not forgotten , just over priced vs reality of the career. But yes that can be said about a ton of people. Hell I am not sure what players have ever held their peak while they were playing. It's a short list.
