Why in Gods name would you not want Cano back?

200+ million and 7 years+ for cano??

I know not all of these players have had 7 years adn 200 million but the MAJORITY of big long contracts NEVER work out. The Yanks have experienced Cano's best years and shouldn't resign him if it takes more than 4 or 5 years.

Um lets see ARod, Sabathia, Tex, Pujols, Hamilton, Kevin Brown, Johan Santana, Vernon Wells, Barry Zito, Carl Crawford.

Of course generally the long contract does not work out, and realistically you should avoid it. But Sabathia has definitely worked out so far except for this season which may have been an aberration due to the injury and odd off season he had. And Jeter's 10 year deal definitely paid off well. And hell, so did Winfield's.

Yeah. I think Sabathia will end up working out as well. But thats two or three guys you listed. For every two deals that work out I can find 10 or so ones that didn't. Just something I hope the Yankees stay away from.

Thats exactly what i explained. I don't want him back and thats the reason why because he will cost a lot of money.

NO NO NO MCCANN NO. I don't want to pay 3-4 years of mccann when we can hope Sanchez will be up in two or three years. I love the idea of Zobrist, Shields, and or Garza. Ellsbury would be amazing to pick up but I think he will command a lot of money and years out there.

It's ok. Once he works back up to 3 bills in the off season he should be ripped and ready to go.

I think, they should fire there whole farm system staff and find somebody that can pick talent. if they don't get young there done for next year.JMO

Sending this back up! Some recent developments.

-Yankees called on Phillips (Reds).
-Yankees expected to be team to beat in Tanaka bidding
-Granderson turned down Yankees Qual offer
-Apparently this is the expected big board:

1. Robinson Cano
2. Hiroki Kuroda
3. Masahiro Tanaka
4. Brian McCann
5. Carlos Beltran
6. Shin-Soo Choo
7. Stephen Drew/Jhonny Peralta
8. Grant Balfour


I am adjusting to the idea of Tanaka and I hope they can pull him in as well as Cano and McCann. If Kuroda is willing to come back on a 1 year deal again then I say go for it. Sabathia, Tanaka, Kuroda, Nova, Pineda/Banuelos/Phelps/Warren seems like a good rotation to me.

However, I DO NOT want them spending more than 5-6 years on Cano and no more than 3 on McCann.

It would be great to bring them both back but I also doubt Kuroda is back. I would be surprised if they don't win the bidding for Tanaka

Hopefully. Worst case scenario is he gets into the AAA HOF like Igawa.

I highly highly doubt he pitches anywhere close to igawa's numbers. He's got the makeup much more like Kuroda or Ryu

Well bumping this back up with the updates. I forgot I had this thread but I'll try and keep it going better!

-McCann signed for 5 years 85 million with 6 year option
-Ellsbury signed for 7 years 153 million with 8 year option
-Beltran signed for 3 years 45 million
-Kuroda Resigned for 1 year 16 million
-Other pickups include Brendan Ryan and Kelly Johnson for some depth on the IF.

It does seem like the Yanks may make a trade with Gardner although Cashman is saying no. (Masterson maybe). Running an OF with Ellsbury, Beltran, Soriano is risky but IF healthy that will be a solid OF.

Also reported that the Yanks are in on Reynolds and Johan Santana. Santana is looking for a incentive laden non guarateed contract and I think that could be a great deal for the Yanks as a low risk high reward.

I also like Reynolds and hope they bring him back. Him at third until ARod comes back would be okay with me. You can't have all stars all over the diamond and having Kelly Johnson at 2B and Reynolds at 3B would be okay IMO to bat at the bottom of the lineup if they keep Gardner. However, they are in on Infante and he's looking for 8 million a year which isn't too bad for a solid 2B. I don't think 4 years is a good idea tho. I think if they can get him at 3 years 24 million then get it done.

They also received Kyle Hayes on the back end of the Stewart trade. Not a bad guy to get for Stewart IMO as he was going to get cut anyway.

Couple of updates:

-Brian Roberts signed for 1 year 2 million
-Matt Thorton signed for 2 years 7 million

Tanaka will also be posted and I'll be surprised if he's not in pinstripes next year. I like the Roberts signing and think that him and johnson as well as Anna can platoon there and be solid enough. Reynolds back at third and I think our team is set besides the starters.
