I don't care for what he said. I mean. yes I would of thought the same thing (if it were my team) but to say that was just wrong. People say they give him respect for saying what he feels but this is his team. has been for YEARS! You stand behind them. How does saying you suck and your going to loose help moral and help your guys win? He did not stand behind the very people who supported him all those years and disrespected them and the fans. Not cool. Where is your support Chipper?

He didn't say he wanted them to lose. He just said he thought they'd have a tough time with the Dodgers and would lose in 4.

Playing devil's advocate here:

So usually when somebody throws out the first pitch it is a bench player or somebody like that who goes to catch it. Maybe Laird and a few of the guys heard about it and said "naw, somebody else will do it." and in the end, nobody stepped up.

I doubt the Braves would have done this had they known it would blow up like this on them. I don't think they meant any real slight to Chipper...just wanted to show him they are still listening to what he says and he is still a Brave. There are 2 sides to every story, and I doubt this was a concerted effort to start blackballing him now. The Braves are an organization full of practical jokers....how do we know it wasn't a joke or a harmless slight they were trying to give him? I doubt he took too much offense to what happened.

Yes, I do live in Atlanta, but I am not a Braves fan.

The scenario you suggest is the definition of an intentional slight. It is a spiteful action in return for a perceived insult.

Had it been a joke they would have publicized that on the field after the pitch by running out to him, etc.

Not against the cardinals or pirates, or the Rays. So its about a 50/50 split really. The dodgers just happen to have been a really bad matchup pitching wise.

But the main point of that comment was Atlanta's playoff curse.

I admire that level of fandom, but overall it goes back to the braves not having the right type of pitching depth to make a deep playoff run. I think it was more a lack of offense that hurt the braves in the first round. If the front office could somehow get rid of bj and uggla and improve those spots or use the salary savings elsewhere, I think they'd do better in the postseason.

I believe there is an unwritten rule in baseball that says you are not allowed to say the Braves will lose in 4 games in the NLDS. Chipper apparently broke that unwritten rule and paid the ultimate price by having to throw a ceremonial first pitch to a mascot. I mean what was he thinking? He should have known that rule as it was the one unwritten right below "The only players allowed to watch a home run that they hit are Braves players, coaches and front office folks (up to but not.excluding the night cleaning crew)"

Maybe when an Asian Ice Dancer throws out the first pitch. When one of the greatest players in your franchise throws it out, the face of the franchise catches it.

Sorry but saying "they'd have a tough time with the dodgers and would loose in 4" he is saying they are not going to make it.. And where did i say Chipper said he wanted them to loose?

Former players are analysts and pick against their former team all the time.

It's an opinion.

First of all this has nothing to do with my "level of fandom." It has to do with observations from watching baseball this past season. The Dodgers are a tough pitching matchup for anyone.

I don't disagree at all that the Braves weren't well set up in the pitching department. I don't think they were as bad off as you seem to think though.

You created a 50/50 split out of nowhere. That takes some high level rationalization to come up with. That's like Vols fans thinking they'd beat Florida if they played again because of how closely they played uga.

Is it possible that many of the Braves already disliked Chipper? Maybe even hate the ****** and this was just icing on the cake? I have personally thought Chipper was a world class d-bag for a long time. And I hated his calling out of Jason Heyward, who then played through injury for months, and stunk it up. Thought Chipper himself never had any problem sitting out games. Who knows, but I would not be surprised if there was deep rooted feelings far before his prediction.

That could be it.

I file it away in the "who cares' category. If the Braves come calling, Chipper will be there....until he moves out of Atlanta or finds something better to do. 2 years from now, nobody will remember this and Chipper will still be banging 20 year olds....so everybody wins.

Not really. They would definitely match up better against the A's the Rays the Pirates and the Cardinals (all this is based off my eye test from watching games this season) That isn't to say that they hold an edge over those teams, only that pitching differential isn't overwhelmingly against them in those series.

I can be guilty of homerism, but not here. So cut the condesecension and assumptions about my logic.

Edit: I could be wrong about the A's. But I don't think the Rays Pirates or Cardinals present anywhere the difficulty (from a pitching match up stand point) that the dodgers presented.

If I am wrong then I am wrong and it would not be the first time, but I am far from a rabid fan wearing rose colored glasses. So if I am wrong just tell me and cut the insults.

Good point! McCann and him were teammates for 8? years, you would think he would be able to look past something like that if they were friends AT ALL. And I've never cared much for chipper either.
