What's the deal with all of the Willie Mays forgeries popping up on ebay?

unfortunately that specific time for those Fleer cards will usually associated with forgeries. Its a shame too I loved some of those sets.

Are you guys saying some of the donruss were sold unsigned to.

Those accounts you guys linked are naru'ed

Sean C whats up

Yes, knighttime55, aka we'll not going to put him on blast as he reads this forum, released a bunch of unreleased, unsigned cards that was probably from left over uncut sheets. The eBay identity said one thing, but the invoice said another and that person worked for multiple card companies. The reason I say they were from extra uncut sheets is because unsigned cards of deceased HOF significant signatures were released, such as Babe Ruth, Roberto Clements, etc.

I'll scan the few that I purchased (Pujols, Clemente, etc.) for reference if it helps. I remember seeing someone trying to sell a signed pujols a year back or so. Why they would forge a signature on that card is beyond me, since it never made it to the hobby in the first place and was rare enough to begin with. It would be like forging a signature on the 67 Roger Maris Yankees card, just plain dumb.

Edit - Hey jcmint, hope all is going well. Been mostly lurking around here as of late, as things are kinda crazy in my life and I don't have the time or energy to contribute much.

He sent me an email asking that I have this thread removed. I said no.

I won't reproduce the email, because it was respectful and well written but he needs to know that these signatures are bad and do the right thing.

Wow, most of those Mays autographs are really bad. It is really sad a lot of this stuff gets out on the open market.

Remove for what? We all know these came from knighttime55 unsigned and he bought 25 items from knighttime55 from March 13-22nd. knighttime55 had unsigned cards of Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.

Wonder if he is a member, lurker, or if someone told him about the thread.

Well written or not he should know he is a POS for selling (or trying) these obvious fakes.

They are not even close.

I guess he picked the right eBay name. The lack of integrity is pushing the hobby deeper and deeper into the ground.

It's amazing that this guy knows a lot of people know it's forged and know where he got the card from, yet still trying to sell it.

This was the auction that opened the floodgates to the possibility of Mays forgeries.

Unissued Willie Mays Prototype Card Collection Including Twenty Signed Examples (277 cards)

After years of trying to find a legit pack-issued Mays 2001 Fleer Tradition "Stitches In Time" Auto, I'm convinced the card was never signed, although Beckett has said differently directly to me in correspondence. Mays is known not to sign ***** League items as well, so even the aftermarket ones are all fake as far as I'm concerned. I had to settle for the unsigned/unreleased version.

That article was fascinating. I can't imagine the amount of cards over the years that are/were never used......or were they? Ha....crazy.

You'd be surprised. A lot of them popup on eBay and fall under the radar because everyone focused on newer product and what's hot.

Won't matter. EBay won't do anything unless there is a high possibility a legal matter will come out of it, such as copyright or infringement issue.
