The Yankees are not going to balk at his $300m asking price, they are waiting for that price to tank because no team wants to go near that deal. They are playing it smart, he'll be back in pinstripes. He has to, how do you replace a player of that caliber?

Calm down. The Yankees are the smart ones here, knowing that no player in their 30s is worth $300 million.
They're still in negotiations. Cano's just trying to pressure the Yankees into paying what he wants.

And ESPN reported that the Mets met with JayZ out of courtesy becsuse he's a new agent and have no intention of signing Cano.
The Mets GM said the huge deal with David Wright will keep them from signing someone like Cano.

I'm just stating the obvious. I agree no 30+ year old should get that much, but start somewhere

You don't get the hot girl at the bar by falling all over yourself buying her drinks and dropping lines. You play it cool down the bar a ways, a few knowing glances, a bit aloof.

Then BAM.

Cano is at no immediate risk of being signed by any team, NYY know this. It's essentially a chess match at this point.

You're acting like the Yankees are just ignoring Cano and not making an effort.

From ESPN.com today:
"The Yankees have already made an offer to Cano, believed to be in the area of between five and seven years for around $160 million, an average of approximately $23 million a year."

This is why I dislike the Yankees (big market teams) and certain members of their fan base. 300 million... Pssss... Why the hell are they taking so long to pony up and pay him....

If only there was profit sharing to level the playing field and make spoiled fans realize that GMs can't just open up a checkbook tied to an endless bank account.

Yanks are playing this one smart. There is zero chance that asking price doesn't go down.

...... I'd just like to say please don't group all Yankee fans in the group with this guy.

They have made an offer of somewhere in the range of 160-210 million which is probably the top offer he will get. I am so happy to see the Yankees taking a hard stance against this unlike that ARod deal when he opted out. He's waiting as our most other big name free agents. One of the key reasons, Alex Rodriguez. If the Yankees get an extra 20 million-30 million in salary cap room from his suspension then they are back in the ball game for many big name free agents and thus prices will increase for other players.

IMO Cano gets a deal around 200 million maybe a bit more or a bit less but right around there.

Many GM's can open their checkbooks plenty wide and choose not to. The Yankees have a huge brand, huge tv deal, millions from merchandising, and a very wealthy family owning them. They have money to spend why not spend it?

Everyone has this idea that the Yankees have so much more money than everyone else. Its really not exactly like that. They put that money back into their team. Plenty of owners are richer than the steinbrenners or just as rich and choose not to spend on FA's.

They also paid 29 million in luxury tax in 2013.

Which is hardly a slap on the wrist for the majority of Owners and teams in the league.

Yes the Yankees are rich but I'm tired of hearing the argument that they have so much more money than everyone else which is just not true in terms of how much money the owners have available to them.

It kills me hen after all these years folks still beat the dead horse of how much money the Yankees organization has and how their championships are bought versus won. Here is where I stand, sure...go out and buy top quality talent. Take caution in how your money is spent and make sure you get your bang for your buck. In Cano's case, I will say 300 is a bit much since they are still standing by with an outcome in ARODs situation. But IMO, cano is an investment worth keeping.
