Anything that brings the hobby back from $500+ "boxes", I'll listen to. I've never bought any Leaf, they're nice looking cards and it's cool the owner is a FCB member, but they resale of the current cards just isn't there for me. Although this is a hobby to me, like most, I enjoy making a little coin as well.

TG, don't you think you should at least wait until someone actually announces what is actually going on before you denounce someone for something they might do? Or attempt to do? ::facepalm::

So why do UD, Panini and Topps not have their Reps on this or other collector forums?

If I were to post on the forum a strategy to steal cards from another member. For the good of the hobby, not for income because I already have enough money to last me a lifetime. Then, you would wait until I actually stole the cards before you would comment on it?

I'm sure we've all seen Minority Report. The potential for a crime is quite enough to convict one of that crime. Anything to protect MLB from its enemies!

I really wasn't attempting to be mean nor was I saying it was your fault I didn't understand what you said. I'm sorry you took it that way, must be the knucklehead in me.
I don't even understand your Last post or the point behind it...

After careful consideration guys, I think this is just a lot of hot air being brought up by a guy that is waiting for someone else to throw the first "stone" so to speak. Brian either doesn't have the cajones or the wallet to challenge the MLB exclusive on his own, and is apparently saying someone else will be going after them instead (and I'm sure he'll tag along on the case once it's out there). What I find sad is that Brian will go out and make a public tweet like that, yet will only discuss the matter with people privately on the phone where he could later deny anything he said on the call. He even PM'd me that if I ever wanted to know what was really going on he'd love to discuss it.

OK Brian, here is your put up or shut up moment: If you would really love to discuss what is going on, BY ALL MEANS GO AHEAD AND DISCUSS IT!!! You have your own forum here, you can respond on this 8 page post, you can start your own brand new post, you can post it all on twitter, set up a moderated Q&A here, whatever you choose. You like to throw these little comments out there, just to prove you are one of the cool kids who is "in the know", but then won't go ahead and actually discuss what you know is going on behind the scenes. Are you really that insecure that you need to go and do things like post that initial tweet, knowing full well that you'll never discuss these things you know publicly?

BTW, I do find it a laugh riot that nearly a year after you made the statement:

"1) it will not be referred to as leaf Rize on eBay (eBay will end all trademark violations) or in Beckett

http://www.freedomcardboard.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116681&page=6

and several months after you were called out on it again:

http://www.freedomcardboard.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124952

There are still hundreds active and even more completed listings with "Leaf Rize" in the listing title.

Conspiracy theory is so awesome. I'm wondering if you believe we landed on the moon or if it really was terrorists who brought down the towers?

Conspiracy or not, I say follow whatever idea seems to lead to someone making the most money they can in the easiest manner they can. 9 times out of 10, you'd be on to something.

I'm sure this has everything to do with it. Because that script/color scheme/etc was designed by the team and it's part of their "corporate identity". I'm not sure if they trademark those "designs" or not, but I'd be willing to bet they do.

I believe they do have this copyrighted. Hell, even the University of Texas has their burnt Orange color copyrighted.

1). I'm all for more product and options. I love the old days when you had choices between Topps, Playoff, Fleer, Upper Deck, etc. In fact, I hate exclusive licenses (I stopped collecting new hockey cards when UD won the rights to the NHL).
2). My problem is the idea of using the first amendment to try to circumvent a contract for the express reason of allowing the complaining party to make money. You want to argue anti-competitive reasons or anything else, be my guest, but the first amendment and sports cards should never be uttered in the same sentence.

I may be way off here but IMO, it's a monopoly as it is and that's supposed to be against the law. Right? In any case, the way I feel about it is it's no different than any company charging way over their cost(way over!) when they sell goods or services to consumers. From where I stand, all kinds companies do things I'm not fond of. Why all of a sudden does the buck stop at leaf?

This contradicts itself because if a book has an advertisement, and movies have previews and usually a coupon or something for another movie, and cd's have a promo sheet in them touting another record coming out, then all of it is advertising one way or another. All they seem to care about is the amount of advertisement going on. Not the advertising itself. Which to me seems more like a PO stipulation rather than a Governmental opinion on what's considered media and what isn't. Besides, there are some magazines with little if any advertising. Or that only advertise themselves.

Actually, the reason I discuss it on the phone Mr. Know It All, is that I can say in words in 10 minutes, that would take an hour to type and still run the risk of losing the idea in translation or being misinterpreted. Plus, answering questions is far easier ..

I have been around way to long to let an anonymous internet poster goad me into popping the cork before it's time.

It's clear you are merely a troll with no real interest in the topic.

When this shoe drops, I am fairly confident I am the only person in this declining industry with the balls to bring it.

I can't argue with a person scared to discuss issues without the protection of a keyboard and monitor...

Time will tell all.. As I said, (please read carefully), "depending on the upcoming decision by a single licensor, I anticipate a substantial change in the industry via the legal arena."..

You can be a doubting thomas if you wish, but I put it out there and so far have done everything I wanted to in this industry and told anyone who didn't like it to bite me ( or sue me)!

BG

P.s.- Sean, I think your time would be better served looking for more Palmeiros for your collection, you can do that from behind the monitor with the keyboard...

Wow, a good old fashioned "Leaf" fight. Too bad most of the members who used to post in these have either left or been run off.

Hey Brian, screw all this other stuff. Instead just sign all three major sports rookies to exclusives. Hold everyone hostage. Think about the basketball rookie class next year or the football one. Exclusives on Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Manziel, Clowney, Bridgewater, and all the baseball kids too. Then release triple sport draft sets where you have them all together and no one else could have them. Then when everyone cries about it like they did with Razor exclusives, refer them back to all the hate that are on these threads where you clearly are just trying to break a ridiculous and anti-consumer monopoly.
