I get home rip it open and I was shocked.....I got a 1/1 auto of Satchel Paige. I have been collecting for years , mostly base cards, but I have never gotten a 1/1..... It's pretty exciting!

Can anyone tell me the value of this card? I figure this was the place to ask. I have researched ebay, just not sure. While it is great to pick this up, I would rather flip it for more cards. I have never been into collecting autos.

Any help would be appreciated , thanks

I would think that since it's a 1/1, you will get a small premium and I would put the value of that card to around $400 or so..

I just did a quick looksie at EBAY and I saw some really nice Paige autos and they are going no where they used to including a really nice booklet that had his auto and a GU jersey..

Good luck,

Heehee, I just went to ebay and searched on "paige auto" and got a bunch of hits that are quite a bit cheaper and quite a bit better looking than what I expected. Adding "Satchel" is essential.

Killer hit from a very hyped Strata subset - congrats! I used to own a satchel cut auto from 08 legendary cuts; sold it for $750. I'd guess this one could go $800-1000, perhaps more. I remember a cut auto book of Satchel Paige from national treasures went for $1100 (surprising since you can get his autos for less than $200 if not in a card product). Good luck with the sale.

What were the odds on that pull? I didn't think they were putting stuff like that in Topps retail this year.

Yea these prices are way off. As Pin showed a link the Satchel with a Jumbo jersey and auto and pic of Satchel on the card only sold for 436.00

OP - Yours with no pic of Satchel (Boggles me why a company who has a license to put pics on cards doesn't) would probably sell in the 300 range

Considering the National Treasures booklet is /5 and there are people that will pay a premium since it's from base Topps, I could see it getting $600 - $800.

Agreed, Topps has MANY more collectors in this space than Panini does. I would say somewhere between $550-$800.

I think 800-1000 is a better estimate. Topps, 1/1, strata, new product, licensing.

Absolutely impossible monster hit, congrats.

Nice pull, especially for the $10-15 or whatever your initial investment was.

I have to ding Topps for their design on this one though. No picture of the players, even a tiny one, is about as lame as a card can get. i remember seeing the first card of Garvey where he was not even pictured on it, some jumbo bat card, and was disgusted. Whether that hurts the ultimate resale value in this case, maybe not due to the availability of a Paige auto on the market these days and the demand for them, but it is still mucho lame!

Thanks for the help. I was in shock when I opened it. Didn't think it was possible to get something like from a hanger pack in Wal Mart.

What's ironic, is during the snowstorm the other day, my sons and I watched the Ken Burns baseball on Netflix. Our fav episodes were the 40's and 50's , which Paige was featured.

Great card. Absolute underrated legend of the game. That Ken Burns "inning" is the best of them all.

Love me some Satchel
