If anyone can break $1,000 for a base auto made in the thousands, it's the guy who at age 21 had a higher career WAR than one-time MVP Ryan Howard ended with last season with at age 33 for his entire career.

Other players that Mike Trout had a higher career WAR at age 21 than their entire careers; Joe Carter, Vinny Castilla, Ruben Sierra, Eric Karros, Travis Hafner, Cecil Fielder, Mike Sweeney, Jason Bay, Dante Bichette, Pat Burrell, Jermaine Dye, Hideki Matsui, Carlos Pena, Raul Ibanez, Aubrey Huff, Rusty Greer...

Cool idea but is the base auto an SP when compared to other base autos?

I think its only 10 packs of Chrome hobby. 50 packs of ToppsU. No clue on SP. It just seemed like a weird amount of Harpers came out of these value boxes back when they were released.

He (Trout) also had an chrome prospect card in 2010 B Platinum.

Yep, that'll be his "Pujols SPx Auto" equivalent, a nice oncard auto that doesn't quite have the same appeal (or monetary matchup) as his Bowman Chrome Auto

Yes. You're right. I was thinking of maybe the purple parallels in Walmart racks.

The Purple parallels are also refractors - I have a Trout. Had it listed on sportlots for 24.99 - I got an offer for $15 and checked eBay where they were $25-$30 - decided to remove the card.

Base trout autos selling for this much is crazy BUT awesome for the hobby.

Just like soooooooooo many bc autos used to be compared to the Pujols (completely unfairly though), now will be compared to the trout which is a better comparison.

"If trout sells for $800, then I should scoop up more Machado, correa, etc etc because I think he is the next trout"...which should cause other top tier prospects/ young guys to soar.

Sorry, this is still blowing my mind. How is it even possible that a player ended his age 21 season with a higher accumulated WAR than the ENTIRE career WAR of a guy who was a 5-time All-Star, had almost 400 HRs, 1,444 RBI, 231 SBs, almost 2,200 hits, 1,170 Runs and almost 4,000 Total Bases.

Career WAR
Mike Trout - before age 22, 1,490 Plate Appearances - 21.1 WAR
Joe Carter - 16 year career to age 38, 9,154 Plate Appearances - 17.1 WAR

Flaw in the WAR statistic, or Trout is simply that amazing?

It's not a clear cut comparison - Carter was a flawed player who made a lot of outs despite racking up 100 RBI seasons and having a legendary postseason moment.

Still give it 10 years to see how Trout is doing then.

Both but that is why there are still a lot of people who still say F@%K War including myself. As for the original topic I see his regular chrome cards dropping in the future. I remember when Ryan Howards Bowmans Best Rc autos exploded and I almost bought one thinking it was a good buy. Im Glad I dint.
