Couldn't have scripted it any better. Not sure when we're going to another 3,400+ hit guy. Jeet is pretty much the last player from my childhood. He broke in when I was 12!

as for meaningless game, Baltimore and the Angels are vying for the best record in the AL for home field advantage..

Great finish at home for a future hall of famer..

Maine of course......
As a huge Sox fan I loved the moment- it will go down in baseball lore as a fitting end to an all-time-great's career. Like in the all-star game, if you want to say the O's "grooved him a meatball" I say he's still gotta do a lot of things right (and needs some luck) to get a base hit (and drive in the winning run).

I give props to Buck for pitching to him and not walking him.

Also, props to Jeter if he does play in Boston this weekend. Just glad I did not shell out big bucks in hopes of seeing him play his last game.

I’m glad I got to see what went down last night; as a Yankees fan I’ll always remember it. It was a great game and the ending was exceptional. As mentioned, my hat goes off to Showalter for not doing the right thing (walking Jeter to set up the double play) and just going with the moment and giving Jeter the chance to do what he did (or to fail). It was truly a great baseball moment.

My hope now is for a ’79 re-match in the World Series.

Pretty neat, a fitting way to end his career at Yankee Stadium.

I'm glad he will be playing (at least DHing) against the Sox at Fenway.....I know half the stadium will be packed with Yankee fans and I'm sure they want to see him take his final at bat(s).

lol, im a hater. I will not deny it. I've hated the yankees ever since they were our rival in little league. Thats probably where it stems from. I would never compare Jeter and Harper. ;)

I assume this was directed at me so i'll reply that it was meaningless for the Yankees is what i meant.

I would like to ask everyone. Do you think the O's should have walked Jeter to set up the double play since it was the bottom of the 9th and a guy on second with 1 out? To me that is the more logical move.

Not sure when we're going to another 3,400+ hit guy.

good news! Now that the Jeter overhype is over, you'll get to enjoy Mike Trout work his way to and pass Jeets in the career hits total over the next 17+ years.

I"m blessed living in the Mountain time zone to get to pull up MLB.TV and watch Trout regularly and other west is best baseball.
