So since I'm a player collector of someone who played in the '90s and the '90s was when I was probably the most heavily involved in the hobby, I had an interesting though today...
I sometimes think about Albert Belle cards from pre-2001 and whether or not they are "packed out" because of how much product was created back in the '90s but also with how much product is still out there unopened and with people hoarding product from back then. For example, someone has a box of 1999 Fleer Traditions and in my head I always say "man I hope an Albert Belle Starting Line /9 is hiding in there after all these years."
Well it got me thinking, is it safe to assume ALL cards or 99% of all cards are "packed out" when it comes to products released in the last ~5 years or so?!
The only reason why I say this is because (1) there is not as much product released with all the high end stuff today, (2) with all the redemption cards now a days, hoarding boxes is a terrible idea because you'll likely end up with expired redemption's and (3) the mentality IMO that hoarding boxes for the future could return huge value... I think that ship has sailed.
Anyone have any thoughts regarding this? I just think all the Belle 1/1s and printing plates, etc. that I do not have since 2010 are "packed out" and out there somewhere and not hiding in any unopened product or boxes but maybe I'm not thinking of this right. Maybe there is a huge stash of 2012 TTT out there and Belle is just sitting in there and won't be seen for years and years to come?
