Those are the executive samples from that time period.
How can someone distinguish those from the Beckett samples from the same era? The font looks the same and a couple pictured look like gold samples.
Yes. DLP marked one of each card it made, including GU cards, with the SAMPLE stamp and submitted them to MLB for licensing approval. They've trickled out into the hobby for many years. The font used for "SAMPLE" changed appx. 3 times during the years they did it (roughly 2001-2005).
Tried asking in the 2000s thread... Now ill try here.
Can anyone shed some light on these "promo" stamped versions of Showdown? Are these legit promos?

They are legit, but I don't know a whole lot about them. I picked up a few lots on ebay from a guy who sells mainly non-sports Wizards of the Coast products. The Standard Catalog has some of these promos listed, but not for all years.
thanks! I didnt see it cataloged, so i was wondering if someone decided to get fancy with a foil stamper to make a few bucks off of cheap cards.
The card # is the giveaway, the P prefix is on all the Promos I have. I can't even be sure of how many cards are in the Promo sets; the 2004 must have at least 57, I think the 2003 set has 60. Some unstamped Strategy cards exist as well, with different card numbers.
So there are promo versions (maybe) of this? So the number would have a PS22, or P22?

Thanks, but the pic is too small. Can barely see the stamps, let alone the numbers.
Did I just buy an unmarked Puckett Promo?
