Agreed. I don't see the advantage to this unless he's hoping for uninformed bidders but it's pretty easy to check the going rate on these cases.

What are cases going for about $1750-$1800? I think they basically get that, but if anything I'd expect them to lose not gain.

Although it looks like an auto, I'm pretty sure thats just his imprint. I have some of his model bats in my closet, and if I remember, they looked like that.
