You can find jailbroken ones for around $60, if you look hard enough.

They actually need to go through and update the whole WiFi and Internet system. I live in one of the rooms closest to the router on my floor, and still have a hard time getting it to work. Generally I connect through the ethernet cable. They use the excuse that the WiFi doesn't work due to wire mesh in the walls, but when I'm in the lobby right next to the router it's still slow. Then they can write students up if we put a router in our room so that option is out of the question too
