I had picked up a Jeff Bagwell 98 Precious Metals around 3 months back. I tried to sell it on eBay for 200 bucks and it sat for nearly 2 months and nobody even made an offer. I ended up selling it for around 130 or so, (which is fine because it went to a collector of Bagwell) but then another Bagwell gets listed 1 week ago and somebody juts paid 300 for it??? WTF here is the item number. 131610472967 I checked it out on watchcount.com and sure enough sold for over twice what I sold mine for. I just don't get it sometimes. Anyone else have this happen to them?: I would understand if it was more time between the two listing but it has only been 1 month. ARGGGGHHH

You might check in a few days. From what I've noticed on watchcount, it takes a few days to update the BIN/BEST OFFER to actual price sold. Still possible it sold for $300, but I would double check it later on when it updates to make sure.

Looks like it sold for pretty close to $300. If you search for 1998 Donruss on Ebay and sort by highest price first, it lands between $294 and $300.

Frustrating. Really frustrating... This is why I need to learn to just be patient....

Every card has a price, if I feel I am not getting what I need for a card. it stays with me. Specially 90's rare cards.

I usually hold true this but I let it go for cheap because I had two and the person who wanted it was a Bags fan, so I was OK with it

If I knew when/what the too price a card would sell for I'd be in the prospecting game ;) I've been there in your shoes many times, then I've also listed cards for high amounts telling myself I'd listen to offer and the BIN gets hit anyway. The worst ones are when I get offers , turn them down/counter because I don't think they are where I need to be, and end up selling the card down the line for less than the offers were.

yup...definitely had the same thing happen to me a time or two....

the most notable occurrence took place in early 2014....pulled a nice (redemption) card from a 2012 product about a week after the product went live....it was selling for 150 or so out the gate but i opted to redeem it so i could sell the live card...according to the redemption site online it was due to be shipped in early december (roughly 12 weeks from the time i pulled the card).....instead of 3 months , it finally showed up in february of 2014 - closer to 17 or 18 months from the day i redeemed it.....there were only 2-3 recent sales and 3-4 more live on ebay when i got it in hand so i listed immediately....the previous sales had been between 225 and 250....listed it as a 225 BIN with the best offer option....got exactly ONE offer : $50.00....rejected that and watched as the next two sold for 202 and 224....mine still sat untouched..got a second offer of $100...rejected that as well....my 30-day listing expired so i relisted and dropped my price to 200 or BO....i got NO offers and watched another go for over 230....dropped it to 175...no dice....160....nothing....150 ...nada....FINALLY after close to 6 months it sold for a whopping 140....a few sold in that time frame for as low as 115 , but still others were moving north of 175....i was completely baffled by the total lack of interest in when others were going for as much as 50-60 more than my BIN.....i can honestly say i'd never seen that before.....

It's because people want to get a deal.

Someone would be more likely to bid $250 on a card and get it for a few bucks more than someone else is willing to pay rather than offer $200 and risk not getting it for less. I've seen it with the Bowman Platinum Hexagraph 6 auto book of the Cubs. The card has sold at auction for $550ish multiple times and someone posted it for $499 opening bid, in the final seconds a bid was placed and that person won it for $499, a few days later the same card sold at auction for at least $530.

Sellers using a BIN/BO is the same thing, they're afraid that their card will sell for under the going price and want to protect themselves against it, but at the same time, depending on how inflated their BIN is potential buys will probably think they are wanting to get more than the going rate and don't even bother with a BO.

Gabby Hartnett has a button /3 that was/is listed for a $600 BIN/BO, I never bothered with an offer. Another popped up at $300 BIN/BO and we settled on $200. The 3rd finally showed up in an auction and sold for $310 (the buyer then listed it at $429 BIN).

Everyone is always afraid of being ripped off.

The seller probably advertised it (maybe on his facebook, twitter, or any other social media). That makes a big difference. Usually people may not know about it and don't bother to search for it. Only a Bagwell collector would have found it verses a set collector with deep pockets.

Never thought of this actually, quite possibly true.

Did you notice watch count now shows the item sold at $150 rather than the full asking price of $300. Not sure if that makes you feel better or worse, but at least the full asking price wasn't the actual price realized. Like I said a few days, I've ran into this a few times on watch count and just needs a few days to update on their end.

Makes me feel much better :-) Thanks. I needed that. HAHA. Give or take a few bucks is fine, but if it went for over double what I sold for then that would have stung just a bit,
