I know most Mets fans were asleep but ol Utley went dirty old man on Tejada. Poor guy breaks his leg in the freaking post season. Hopefully it rallies the Mets and he should be thankful he's not Chubb

As a Dodgers fan, I'm pleased that the series is tied.

As a baseball fan, I'm not too pleased with Chase Utley, even less so after hearing his comments after the game. Actually, I'm more than a little sick about it. He's wearing my favorite team's uniform, and he absolutely trucked Tejada when there was no reason to do so. Yeah, I know the game is played at a high speed, and he's trying to break up a double play. I get that. But, the slide was dirty, no question about that whatsoever. He started his slide at the bag, not before. Awkward throw by Daniel Murphy means that Tejada probably wouldn't have been able to turn the double play anyway.

After the game, Utley said he defines a dirty slide as spikes high or hitting the body of the defender before your body hits the ground. Umm... Chase, that's pretty much what happened. Dude, you're a middle infielder. You know damn good and well that you f'ed up.

I hope this series doesn't get ugly. The Mets clubhouse is understandably pissed. Will that lead to retaliation? I could certainly see it happening, but I hope not. We shall see. And what about the Dodgers clubhouse? How are they handling this issue? I can't imagine they're rallying around him behind closed doors. Every Dodger I've seen interviewed has been obviously uncomfortable when asked about the play.

Bad situation all around. Feel super bad for Tejada and hope he has a fully and speedy recovery.

Dirty. Agree with above^^^^^^. He started sliding at the point of contact. I totally believe that there will be hell to pay. Either the mets win/lose game 3, the score in game 4 will matter. Close game, no retaliation just yet. If the game is lobsided and a team is about to clinch the series, the floodgates will come loose. I guarantee it. Beyond that, for baseball/health sake, Tejada does not serve long term ramifications from this. Career or life threatening. Just hope the kid can walk soon. I also stand for what Justin Upton said. If this was Jeter/ Tulo, there would be a rule tomorrow, suspension, fine, and ejection from the field. Non superstar treatment if you ask me.

Utley's effort was hard nosed, but his execution was just plain dirty....he slide on his knees (not feet first) essentially at the base...the best way to avenge is to win the series...and along the way retaliate if the opportunity presents itself... Still not sure how this is not interference since his slide was directed to the fielder not the base....

Two post season teams have lost middle infielders due to Bush League plays. Will hard slides into bases be a topic this off season?

Can't touch the catchers but it's ok to run (not slide) into a fielder.

So dirty that I'm going to take a shower.

And Chase better call David Ortiz and see if he'll let him borrow his body armor.

Anyone who thinks it's clean, watch a few "breaking up double play" videos and then compare them to Utley's.

Also, after the play notice there is NOT a SINGLE slide mark made by Chase before the bag.

Should be suspended the rest of this year.

They should be. There was another play in game 2 of Rangers and Blue Jays I believe I was watching and it coulda been an injury but luckily it wasn't. The slide started at the base and ended like 6 feet past it. It needs to be addressed as these aren't good slides, just possible injury (to either party) ones.

He should be done for the series, if not the post-season. If Tejada can't come back because of Utley's actions, neither should Chase.

This reminds me of the Harper and Paps situation. Utley hurts someone but I think a bigger star is gonna pay for it. His dirty play might end up getting Seagar blown up, poor decision by a vet who should know better

This could lead to further action by the mets....I hope the Torres does something to Utley of the dodgers. Don't want to see anyone else hurt! Best regards, David

They damn well better respond, don't want another 2000 roided up Clemens throwing a bat at Piazza and no retaliation and then the Mets just rolled over. This better light a fire under their @$$3$

I'm in the 'not dirty' camp.

I don't think it was a dirty play. I think he did was was necessary to break up the double play in an important postseason game.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be upset if it were my shortstop being taken out like that, but it's not completely Utley's fault that Tejada's leg snapped.

If Tejada hadn't tried to pull off some fancy ballerina pirrouette and basically had his back to Utley while spinning, then his foot wouldn't have been planted on a spin like it was, and he wouldn't have snapped it due to the torque of his body in motion. Just jump up and make the freaking throw like nearly every other second baseman and shortstop in MLB and the minor leagues would have done. Why try a fancy spin throw. His own actions are basically what caused the break.

Utley was just doing what several other base runners have done in the past, and what nearly every other one would have done in that same situation.

It's unfortunate that Tejada's leg is broken, but everyone is overreacting.
