The 1998 Topps Tek Thread

This was the last pattern I needed. Pattern #39 . Card number 90. @gracecollector had it. Now I have it. It arrived today.

I have......all 90....... 1998 Topps Tek Randy Johnson patterns.... A completed player set..... wow.

When I got back into the hobby near the end of 2013 and joined this board I needed 23 patterns. In May 2014 I needed 9. Took 2 years to find 9 cards. I found the 89th card back in September. 8 months waiting on the last one.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Best of luck to MansGame and everyone else still in the hunt, it's tough. Of course now that I have a complete set I'll be going after a reverse order set, odd & even pattern number sets, a prime number pattern set, a 90-card set of all the same pattern number and so on. I will pay the Jan 2002 Beckett high price.

Heh, we kid, but that's the joy of 98 Tek is all the different ways you can collect. Here are my projects:

Nine diff Griffey Diffractors - complete
Nine diff Buhner Diffractors - complete
Diffractor set - Need 26
Griffey set - over halfway there
Minty fresh set - about halfway. I seem to have good luck with certain patterns for avoiding the spotting.

22 diff Juan, 14 diff Jeter, and 11 diff Lofton in case I ever get close enough to go for sets.

I wish they would do another set like 1998. I think it would generate a ton of activity from player and team collectors and that makes it fun.

Mailed out two different packages this week with a bunch of tek cards... feels good to get some things out the door and in the right hands. I have a Belle Diffractor incoming as well, which is nice. Should be a good week.

[MENTION=4682]RustyGreerFan[/MENTION] , the 2018 (20 year Ann) set should be done exactly in the style of 1998. 90 patterns, 90 cards, only Diffractors as parallels. Nothing more or less (no autos, no numbered cards, no Buybacks, just as was) . At least that's what I would do

Just want to give a big thanks on an incredible mailday to atlsportsfan and Gracecollector.

This morning, I woke up needing five Venturas to complete my '98 run. I now sit at needing three remaining cards. Incredible to knock two off the list on the same day when you're within five, but I was able to do it. Brad and Phil delivered on patterns 33 and 37. Awesome guys.

I just posted this on Topps Facebook page. We'll see what they say about it. I wonder if a petition would help, but the impression I get is that Topps does whatever it wants and doesn't listen to collectors.

Cool, if they are smart they should listen. Should be a mix of past highly collected guys, present and a few RC types. Lmk if they respond at all.

Make sure you let them know to not make any pattern 49 diffractors to stay true to the 1998 set!

Or, they could make the missing pattern 49 diffractors from 1998 and include them as inserts.

George - I tried to send you a card you needed, too, but I just looked again and I don't think I sent you one you even needed. Sometimes it's hard reading those little numbers. I think I sent you an 85 and thought I was sending you a 65. It's the thought that counts? :benson:
