Great read!

But I can't tell if it's a recent find or was a while ago. Has the stuff sold yet?

Many in this hobby have said that these types of finds no longer exist. I am of the belief that there are thousands of collections like this that exist in closets and attics from collectors who do not want the spotlight shown on them.

This is an awesome find and it is very cool to see those '53 Topps cards in the scrapbooks like they were. What a throw back to a time when collectors collected for the fun of it and not the monetary value.

I agree. Some people on message boards (not pointing my finger at anyone specifically on here) act like if they are on a MB, then every other collector is as well. I think there's quite a few collectors out there that are not.

Agreed. I know of so many collectors who do not frequent any message boards and their only connection to the hobby is visiting card shows or making an occasional Ebay purchase for their collection. I would venture a guess to say that the total of all hobby message board users are just a very small fraction of those that actually collect. All one needs to do is look at the average number of people that have attended a National card show over the last ten years and see that we are but a drop in the bucket on this board as well as others in terms of numbers of collectors.

I know/knew an older gentlemen who had a sweet vintage Dodgers collection. He had never used eBay or message boards because he said it took his fun out of the hobby. He had been collecting since he was a kid but he said its not a hobby anymore, that it's more of a business now. I had to agree at the time but between this message board and some of the people I follow on Twitter, I still believe there are folks who collect for fun and not strictly for money
