By the late 1940s, however, injuries were starting to debilitate Henrich. In 1949 he fractured the transverse vertebrae in his back, broke his toe, and played in just 115 games. In April 1950 he flew to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to seek treatment for the left knee that had been bothering him since his rookie year. His physician, Dr. George Bennett, informed him he needed knee surgery, but could not promise the operation would allow him to continue playing ball. Henrich refused to have the surgery and, after playing in only seventy-three games in 1950, he announced his retirement as a player on December 18.

It's my first Topps Gold Label framed auto but it will not be my last.

They are beautiful cards. I really wish they made a Goldschmidt or Freeman auto. If they had, I'd certainly own each of them. I'd like to see them put out a Verlander auto too.

Despite the awesome season, was pretty quiet on the pickups last year (think I picked up 4 or 5 cards between July and December, which is insanely low for me). Lots going on, so I kind of took a step back. Trying to get back into it this year a bit. This came in a couple weeks ago, one of the first big pickups of the year.

I've been quietly lurking as always! All good here, just working to pay down that student debt, so wanted to take it easy. Looking to come roaring back this year though! Have a couple nice things coming in the next week! Still buying Goldy's here and there?

That Gibson relic is beautiful.

That Gibson is nice! I've wanted a Josh Gibson for awhile now.

It's labeled as a game used piece but I'm not sure that has been confirmed to be the case. From what I gather, it could be from a Gibson model bat, not necessarily game used. I am going to try to look into it further but would appreciate any additional information available.
