Hello all….new to this blog but figured I’d give it a shot because everyone here seems super knowledgeable and friendly!

I am not a big collector of cards to be honest but my brother right before he passed away gave me a 1998 fleer vintage classic Mickey mantle (55 out of 63) and I thought it was pretty cool and started doing research on it. He told me it was rare and a very hard collection to put together. Boy, was he right! He passed away the next week unfortunately due to a drunk driver. Ever since that happened I have been trying to put the whole set of all 126 cards (serial numbered) together for a tribute and his legacy . It might be just to keep my mind occupied and distracted from what happened but either way I feel it’s something I have to do no matter how long it takes. We were very close and this just happened not to long ago on New Year’s Eve. I didn’t realize how hard this would be until I started doing my research. I have bought all the ones on eBay that I could but there’s not many out there. If anyone has any that they would like to sell, I’d be more than interested and wouldn’t try and low ball you. It’s not about the money more than the feeling of having to accomplish this for him and I know he would be proud of me. I’ve never put any set of cards together in my life so this is all new to me. I’m more of a coin guy gold and silver is my game so a little overwhelmed. Anyway, sorry for the novel and if you did take the time to read this and can help in anyway, please message me. It pull be greatly appreciated 🙏……

And to my brother, if some magical way you’re looking down and seeing this, know I love you and miss you so much everyday. I will get this set together if it’s the last thing I do or until my last breath is taken, I won’t ever stop looking and trying. I hope I can make you proud. I’ll make sure to give it to your daughters before I leave this earth and come see you wherever that may be.

Nice back story for a set build. My condolences on your loss.

Yep, you picked a tough one. That was a time when 1000/5000 cards were still pretty well received and considered somewhat hard to get. The cards from the 90s numbered down to 100 and less are now at the top of many peoples wantlists. Good Luck.

I think I have one, but have not seen it for a while. Charles Johnson, if I recall. If I come across it, I'll try to find you and check in.

I would have liked to grab up any/all Dodgers, but I don't think I ever came across any that were reasonably priced.

Thank you so much for the reply and thank you for your kind words! It’s been a rough year but searching for these cards has given me a little solitutde and a little peace and keeps me busy so I don’t go to heavily in a downward spiral after losing not just my brother but my best friend. I do not have Charles Johnson (26c) so if you ever do find it and want to part ways with it I’d love the opportunity to work something out with you for it. Like I said, I’m not trying to low ball anyone or not even trying to bargain or hassle anyone for some low price. It’s not about the money, I just want to finish what my brother started. I look everyday, I buy the hobby boxes and individual cards I come across on eBay even though there isn’t many. Especially the hobby box series one since it has the real big names potentially in them. I have done okay so far but still have a long ways to go. I’ve never pulled one from a hobby box but have purchased a good amount on ebay of individual ones. I believe I have 41 of the 126C’s in the set as of today. Sometimes I can’t help but to randomly laugh because I now realize how truly hard this set is and I know my brother is laughing his butt off at me because he knew my determination level once I start something and I won’t ever quit, and he knew How hard this set was to complete. It was his last “good luck little brother” to me before he passed knowing that I may never ever complete it but I won’t ever stop torturing my self trying to. Anyway sorry for the novel but it was super nice for you to reach out and is much appreciated. Even if you don’t find the card or you decide you don’t want to part ways with it, I’ll understand. I appreciate the time you took to even write back on this thread, so thank you truly!
