    They don't need to be laying down. As long as the binders are full or have extra padding to prevent warping, they are better off vertical.

    Erasure will likely leave a ghosting affect. The Leaf idea is viable, but the signature must be within a certain size so it fits on the card template they use. If it has a letter, you should be able to erase the inscription and send the letter and item back to PSA and pay the Letter fee...
