I am not sure anyone even cares here about the Mastro Auction Court proceedings but I figure I would throw this out there.
Now before I start let me explain why I am not sure anyone cares here. Most of the collectors here are just that, collectors who really don't have the big money to go...
I guess my feeling is opening packs is a very hands on experience with either instant gratification with a nice pull or instant disappointment when nothing good is in the pack. I want the pack in my hand to open and if I cant have that I wont be spending my money on their product. Have we...
Olbermann has been in the hobby for decades as he used to write for a few publications as a teenager. His knowledge of sportscards as well as his actual collection is incredible. I remember years ago when Topps Heritage was brand new he was putting together a master set and I sold him a few...
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to just post an update as I am now at 190 cards and am well over the half way point in just over a year. My hopes are that 2016 will see me get all of the lower numbers with only high numbers left for the last step of this quest. I do plan on adding some of the lesser...
It is showing -1 right now in wonderful Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
I have to drive to Moline, Illinois tomorrow and pretty sure it is going to be the same down there as well. Not looking forward to a three hour drive through open corn fields.
Great start to a good looking set. I have been working on the '55 Bowman set but had kicked around the idea of doing this one or the 1950 Bowman.
I am looking forward to watching your progress.
The '53 Paige is one of those iconic cards that just beg any vintage collector to own. Congrats on buying the card and not the holder because from my standpoint, you got yourself a beautiful card there regardless of the grade.
I think you are right to a point. The major retailers have someone set up the displays and sell the product basically on consignment and take zero risk if product does not sell. How many times have we heard about WalMart, Target and others dealing with a distributor who maintains their...
Alright.....who wants to see a baseball game????? Sure, there is still snow on the ground and we have a few more months on winter but what is a better way to beat those winter blues but to plan on going to a baseball game in the spring?
Last year my wife and I got a group of friends, family...
I have noticed that we ave seen less and less of the "I am starting a card shop" threads and maybe this one will put an end to them once and for all. If the FCB store cannot make it in good economic times than the chances of anyone else making it are slim and none. I had a shop for nine years...
Well in that case there are many paper cutters that crafters such as my wife uses that will give you a quality cut on cardboard. They do tend to be smaller cutters and not the best for uncut sheets due to their size but they can work. I would check with your local printers and see if they will...
If you are looking at cutting the sheets up for grading purposes you might want to think twice for a number of reasons.
1. The grading companies are pretty good at detecting sheet cut cards. Sure, a few get through here and there but many are rejected for this reason
2. In my...
I had literally over a half million cards left over from when I had a card shop and closed it down in 2003. These cards have been sitting in boxes in my parents garage since then, all virtually untouched but that was before we had to sell my mom's house this past fall. I had to make many many...
Very cool. I remember those days when you could buy a large vintage lot like your father did for next to nothing. That is how my father and I mainly filled out our collection together. We had cards we purchased from people after putting "buying" ads in the paper in the late '70's and early...
73 is one of my favorites and one I will be putting together again myself! Good luck in locating the remaining cards!
Needing 45 cards for your 1960 set is one heck of an accomplishment as well! Would like to see some scans if you have them.
I have collected so long and have had to sell off most of my collection so many times that I do not think I have anything that is untouchable anymore. I used to have a great deal of game used memorabilia from my time working in MLB but when I realized my son didn't want it and it was taking up...
Take a huge step forward in my quest to complete the 1955 Bowman baseball set. I am currently about 120 cards short of completion with all of the big cards in hand (Banks, Mantle, Mays and Aaron) but those high numbers are going to kill me. I would love to be needing just 20 cards by the end...
i meant to write about this one but totally forgot about it. Back in 1983 I was sorting the large stash of 82 Fleer cards we had accumulated and just happened to notice I had two Littlefields that had the flipped negative. It wasn't until a few years later when this card was on fire that I sold...
Sports card collecting is not an exact science and neither is the printing of these cardboard classics. Despite what many collectors think, a great deal of quality control goes into these printed products to ensure each player is properly identified and depicted in the manner in which he/she...
Check out how vintage Mantles in higher grade have been doing over the last five years and I am sure you will get your answer. Even earlier vintage Mantles in lesser grade have shown great ROI's, especially the 1952 Topps mantle in any grade.
