It is hard to imagine that a team that was in existence as long as the Brooklyn Dodgers were only won the series once while in the borough. They had sniffed at the championship so many times by being in the World Series and getting beaten by the perennial favorite Yankees and to win this one...
Crap.....now I have to look for these cards as I go through the hundreds of boxes I have. When I had my store I know my customers opened literally 50 of these boxes and would leave me everything but the inserts.
That Mike Witt card was ripe for this type of overproduction considering what the wise guys at Upper Deck did when they realized they had a million dollar payday waiting for them with the '89 Griffey rookie. What shocks me more about the Witt cards is why havn't we seen a ton of these trickle...
Stop me if you heard this one before…..
A nine year old walks into a dime store and stops dead in his tracks at the sight of ten boxes of baseball cards in the clearance bin. Glorious wax packs with cartoon-like baseball players on the front stare at him as the scent of mouthwatering bubble...
Its sad the way been brought to this point when a guy has to sue to get a card that has negligible value. Just another instance of our lawsuit happy society who throws a child like tantrum when they dont get what they want.
A few years ago I posted a set spotlight that I had written regarding Dormand post cards and with that was the progress of the set I was working on (do an advanced search on my name and Dormand and you will find the article). As much as I hated to, not long after I posted that article I ended...
When I was a kid and collecting in the early 70's that 1975 card was awesome.
I knew his auto was scarce and that there had been a few signings for huge prices but I had no idea the auto prices were leveling out to a more manageable level. Maybe it's time to look into getting one myself. Of...
From one of the most creative writers on the board, I will take this as a huge compliment.
You are actually one of the reasons why I am making this attempt as you have inspired me to throw aside all reasonable reasons to not do this as I have seen you go for what makes you happy in this hobby...
I have had probably about 50 or so I grabbed over the years in collections I had purchased as a card shop owner. I always knew I was going to attempt to put set together again someday so I tried to keep the best of what I had so I have had a bit of a head start. I thought about starting at...
I thought I would bump this thread from nearly three years ago because I have decided to undertake the process of piecing this 660 card set one card at a time. While it may not make the most financial sense for me, it will certainly be a labor of love. I do intend to make a post so that those...
I Am sorry to bother you guys with so many pictures but I have a number of promos I intend to sell and am not trolling for offers on this thread...just information. Anything below that is worth more than a hill of beans? I had intended to put these cards as one big lot on Ebay and see what...
I used to have stacks of lineup cards and dugout line up cards but sold them off through the years. Awesome collect able that did not really hold a great deal of value unless it had a significant signature on it or it came from a significant game. I sold some that were from Barry Bonds' first...
Every time you post this I wonder how in the heck that thing survived all these years. I see these cards come up for sale from time to time with Stengel, Johnson and other names but have no clue how they are still around.
Thanks for posting this. I love it.
I am sorry to butt in on the success page but I am not seeing the "ask for an address" thread that I thought was up to date just a month ago. Does anyone have an address for Frank Howard...the former Senator, Dodger and more?
On this date in 1951 Don Zimmer and his lovely bride were married at home plate in Elmira, NY.
I thought for sure Gracecollector would have posted this! :)
I am sure he has the original wedding photos and other cool pix to show.
I am sure they have a Mays auto somewhere. You can do what ever pleases you with the rest of the redemptions but I would hold out for a Mays autograph as a replacement.
The writer of the book that the Cobb movie was based upon has been widely discredited and even accused (and proven in many cases) of selling fake Cobb memorabilia he reported receiving from the Peach. Cobb spent much of his retirement spending his money on charitable causes such as paying for...
All great looking DiMaggios!
I hope since others are showing theirs perhaps I can indulge all of you with the lone DiMaggio I have in my collection. This one is from back in the days when you could still send past greats cards in the mail and they would gladly sign for you. I sent this to...
