It's not a finished product, but I'm just happy to have something online after fiddling around with it on and off for the past couple years. It's nothing fancy, but considering I have no experience doing any sort of web design, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I still need to add about...
Damn Dave, that is a beautiful card. Is the auto on card? I had finally just about caught up with adding some of the biggies on my want list, and now Topps has put out a ton of higher end Pirates cards.
Maybe my perspective is a little different, looking at things as a team collector rather than someone looking to make a profit from prospecting. But with that said, I'm thrilled to see this set go live. Could the design have been a little more unique? Probably. But I can't see how this is...
Thanks Dave. I picked them up at a show from a dealer that regularly buys large collections, and didn't really want to deal with the hassle of uncertified autos. There were a couple other Jagr autos that looked a lot closer to the examples you posted, so maybe I picked wrong. I also picked up...
I picked up these to up this past weekend. I'm not very familiar with either player's signature, but they seemed to match up pretty well to examples of both player's autos. At the price I paid, it was well worth the risk. Any thoughts from hockey folks? The Lemieux definitely doesn't match...
I haven't been around much, but I still pop in from time to time to see if anyone is posting anything Pirates related :D
Things are going well. Lots of work, but I'm hoping I'll be able to move back to the Pittsburgh area after I finish up my master's. WV has been an interesting experience...
Great to see you expanding the collection, Dave. Same thing happened to me once Jack stopped having many new cards released. I've been in the process of scanning and logging my entire collection on and off for the past year or two, and I'm finally close to having a beta version ready to launch.
Just popping in for the first time in a long time, and it's great to see some more Pirate collectors around. Looks like I'm waaaaaay behind with catching up on new releases.
Now you know how I felt last year :? I was pretty disappointed he canceled at the last minute, since I had planned on getting a few things signed for James, and had a great 8x10 of him in the '79 throwbacks to get signed for myself.
I'm really curious to see who is at Piratefest. The...
There is one large autograph area, where the players will cycle through in groups of 3-4 in hour and a half shifts. The line usually backs up to about to about 2 hours, so you do need to plan ahead a bit to hit a certain group. Cutch is confirmed as attending, but I haven't heard anything...
At these events, the guys are at a table and you just go down the line. I have never seen a player refuse to sign anything, and lots of people bring bats, balls, and oversized memorabilia. You shouldn't have any trouble getting a bat signed.
The event is usually a lot of fun, imo. The auto lines can get a bit tedious, depending on what time it is and who is set to sign. Last year Maz was signing, and it turned into an absolute madhouse. But given the lack of marquee names and the fact that most of the more popular players (Cutch...
One of the really nice things about the 20 game plan is the ability to move the tickets around. It can really come in handy when you have a day when you just don't feel like going to the ballpark, or if something comes up. And the team does offer some pretty nice perks for season ticket...
I'm very surprised Lambo didn't crack the list and I think he overvalues Moreno, but the overall assessment of the system seems pretty spot on. There are a ton of young, raw players in the system. It seems that management is hoping if they have enough quantity in the system, eventually...
I'm down in Morgantown working on my master's. It's...an experience, both good and bad. Think you'll make it to Piratefest this year? If you do, let me know and I can probably get you into the season ticket holder area.
I'm still up in the air about going. I didn't find out about it early enough to get 8X10's printed, but I may hit a card shop to pick up some cards before the signing.
I had been out of the hobby completely since I moved down to WV, but found myself back on ebay during the holidays...
I'll likely be going. Where did you see that Tanner would be attending? He has been there in the past, but I haven't seen much info yet on who would be attending this year.
