As far as I can recall, all the Donruss stickers have Candyman or Candy. For what reason is beyond me. He has never been known as a fan friendly guy or a good signer, so who knows. Probably a cool item to add to my collection one of these days, but that will probably be down the line.
The Pie is a really unique card. I'm pretty surprised they were able to round up 100 box scores from that far back.
I'm not crazy about the Silver Beam Team. It is basically just a clear window, but all three together look great. I already have the base Paulino auto, so I may try and get...
After an extended break, here are some new pickups. Maybe we can get some life back into this thread 8-)
Delwyn Young and Jerry Don Gleaton, raising the count to 481.
Not a new player, but the Capps Heritage puts me one card closer to completing the 09 Heritage team set. I always loved the...
Re: 1954 Bowman Signed Set Thread *Updated 3/29* 92.4%!! Done
Great stuff Talmer! I'm sure the last 10% will be tough, but it is an absolutely beautiful set.
To make a long story short, I pretty much quit the hobby cold turkey and have rarely been on here over the last month or two. Between trying to find a post-college job in less than favorable economic conditions, and the arduous wait to hear back about grad school applications, it seemed a good...
I've come across the same conundrum more than once. Keeping myself organized was pretty easy when I was only collecting Jack Wilson. Every card went into a penny sleeve and toploader, with base and any inserts numbered over 25 in order by year and then alphabetized by set.
As I my...
The bidder that came in second has 273 bids on 269 items, 65% of which are with this seller. There were 2-3 other buyers with similar patters that I spotted in this wave of auctions, and none of them appeared to bid against each other from what I saw. I'm probably putting a bit too much...
Does this auction look suspicious to anyone else, or am I being a bit paranoid here?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWNX:IT
The seller had a large number of Mirror Gold's listed, and I noticed a number of bidders that had their percentage with this seller anywhere from 25-70%...
Three new additions, putting me up to 480. I haven't had much luck with the handful of ST requests I sent out before taking a break, so I might be sitting on this number for a while. The Diaz came in a lot with Mike Dunne and an early Bob Kipper auto. It's probably somewhat unhealthy that I...
If any of the extra Redmond's might be available, he's a Pirate I still need for my collection. I sent to him once or twice a couple years ago with no luck, so maybe you ended up with all the cards from the non-returns
That's an interesting question. At this point, any non-auto RC's that are listed end without any bids, and in general I seem to be the only playe collector still actively collecting him of the 3 or 4 that existed at one point. I'd probably be willing to pay a bit more than it's 'worth' simply...
I've been taking a bit of a break from cards over the last month or so, but in doing so have taken some time to look through and enjoy the piles of incoming mail and older cards that often get looked over in maintaining an active collection. In doing this, I have also realized I don't have a...
The first post has now been updated with the links posted. Nice to see a few collections I didn't know about posted.
I've been taking a break from the hobby the last few weeks, but that doesn't seem to stop the mail from pouring in. With 25 new additions, I'm now up to 475. With some ST...
Others might be able to say definitively, but that looks like an autopen to me. It has the characteristic dots at the beginning and end of the words, and the vertical lines have a shakiness that is usually associated with autopen signatures.
Unfortunately, that thought has been running through my head as I read this thread. Overall we have a great community here, but sometimes you take the bad with the good.
With the various specialized threads that have been popping up, the idea of starting a thread specifically for team autograph collectors has been brought up a few times. For anyone that would like to post their newest additions, milestone achievements, or anything else, this should provide a...
Sly, I think it goes the other way too. I never understood team collectors who only collect the 25 guys on the roster. I collect the Pirates because I enjoy the history of the team and the memories that I have of the players I have had the opportunity to watch play in Pittsburgh. To me, I...
From a player collector perspective, I believe it becomes much harder to walk away from the collection when a player has spent nearly 10 years as a key player on a team than players that may leave at or before free agency. When Bobby Bonilla and Andy Van Slyke left Pittsburgh, I largely lost...
I collect Pirates, whether past or present. As long as they're in a Pirate uniform, it's in the PC. With the amount of player movement in the game today, I never really understood the people that would go out and buy every card they could get their hands on of a player who would join the team...
