I would have to vote for the Triple Threads relic cards that spell out goofy phrases. 2012 seems to take the cake:
Evan Longoria - "NOT EVA"C.J. Wilson - "RED GLOVE"
Pablo Sandoval - "SWITCH HIT AND THROW"
David Price - "COLD AS PRICE"
I could go on and on.
Broke two boxes - did get an extra auto, but was disappointed at the lack of color, which always seems to be my luck with Bowman Chrome. However, I can't complain it seems - I'd normally sit on the autos, but I'll have to sell at prices as they stand now.
autos:
Christian Villanueva ref...
Kasey Kiker 2006 Draft gold refractor auto. Pulled 6 years too late, but man did it still look nice coming out of the pack. I'd be curious to know what it was selling for 5 years ago (well, the 49 others at least, as this one was still in hiding at the time).
I don't understand - why would "others want to pay less because of that"? It would make me willing to pay more because I see what buying a box yields – a bunch of cards I don’t want – so I would be even more willing to pay extra to get the card I do want rather than pay even more to get a box...
I would say either of these would be at the top of my wantlist:
1) A home run ball of that player that I caught at a game.
2) The lineup card from some significant milestone in his career.
Too hard to pick just one:
1) Photographs. Unique touched on it - nothing disappoints me more than non-action, uninteresting, or just plain wrong photos. This includes Topps new fascination with team pictures for individual players (Topps Chrome Trout/Goldschmidt), cards of pitchers pictured...
I could use these 2:
2012 Bowman International
Kevin Youkilis
Vance Worley
Have these 3 off your wantlist:
Wainwright, Adam (STL) 2012 Bowman 59 international
Tilson, Charlie (STL) 2012 Bowman BP94 purple
Craig, Allen (STL) 2012 Bowman Platinum CES-AC Cutting Edge Stars die-cut
Let me...
Yeah, some of us were trying to build a nice collection while you were accidentally doing so... but they look much better in your collection than mine. Those blues and oranges look so nice - I just wish his sig was a little less messy.
I voted auto-declined but I would be disappointed with anything other than seller freak out.
Although I was surprised to see that my Rickie Weeks 2012 TTT wood offer was not auto-declined, so maybe sellers are just in a cheery mood these days.
Personally, I liked it better when they had the chrome boxtoppers (although I was disappointed at the off-center/bad-condition 2010 chromes). The 2006 Kemp, 2007 Lincecum/Upton, and 2008 Kershaw/Longoria are some of my favorite cards I own. Would have loved to get a 2011 Update chrome Trout...
It seems like I've seen a lot of Rickie Weeks cards (though not any of the All-Star patches yet). Even more surprising to me is that they've been generally selling for more than I would've thought. I imagine I'll go to the show this weekend and find all of the unity relic autos /99 in cases...
I'll remember that Cabrera won the Triple Crown. But whether it was 2010 or 2011 (which were arguably better seasons for him) or 2012 will almost certainly become foggy in my old age. However, I will definitely remember Mike Trout's first full season - both as a baseball fan and card collector.
I think what I found most striking in the article is(was) how independent each of the people working on the sets worked from each other. In different locations, no less. I can easily see how the process could become complex in a hurry, considering that the editor was not even able to contact...
I could use the Nova, but that's really the only one. Unfortunately already have that Weeks auto.
The Griffeys are pending sale as of now, but I can let you know if they fall through. For the 4 A&G and Gonzalez, I would take:
Strasburg BC
Trumbo BC
Griffey blue ref
one of the Posey Bowman
To me it simply comes down to finding what Trout has done this year to be more awe-inspiring than what Cabrera has done. I have changed the channel to see it on tv, or checked the box scores the next day, in a way that I have never done before.
I like the way Joe at least invalidated goofy...
