I used to be more into football back in the 90s than baseball as far as collecting. I had, and still have a large Barry Sanders collection from then. I know QBs have always been the kings in the collecting world. That said, it used to be WR got little to no love from collectors. Has it changed...
That's true. Still I feel age and experience have a ton to do with it. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Harper explode next year with more power than Trout.
I know this has little to do with collecting, but from a career perspective I feel Trout and Harper will be similar players with Trout...
I feel like Japanese pitchers seems to fall in the "grass is greener on the other side" category. Much the same as NBA teams drafting foreign players looking for the next Dirk Nowitzki.
People have a very short memory. Trout was bad last year in his time up. There's no reason to think Harper is done. From a collecting standpoint it may never be the same. If a number one guy doesn't have the MVP year his first year people jump off. If a guy comes in with normal to no hype and...
Yep. I was never on board with the crazy high prices because of the added SP factor. Being a short print made the buy in higher than normal. I still think he has a chance to be really good, but in the baseball collecting world it might be too late.
It's interesting how so many Tigers prospects made huge jumps this year. Castellanos was already top 100 but jumped big, Rondon came out of nowhere, and Brantley has done pretty well himself.
The deal the Tigers made is the kind that most teams should make. They dealt positions of strength, and...
I haven't read all the posts so this might have come up. Dunn and Killebrew's numbers are similar.
Dunn .242 BA and .373 OBP .503 SLG
Killebrew .256 BA and .376 OBP .509 SLG
If he keeps up the pace he's been on, and hits 600 like the original post suggested, he'll get in.
I've never fully understood the issue with staying around a long time. People throw out the word compiler on guys. You have to stay around a really long time to hit some of these milestones.
Also, there's something to be said for guys even being able to hang on for a long time. There's always...
More than anything else I think this helps the Angles in the event they end up in the wild card game without the chance to pitch their best starter. Now at least one of the 4 is likely pitching verse whatever the other team has. Which is likely not to be the best they have going.
Awesome pick up. I only wish I had the money to get the Granderson up now. I've been waiting for a Granderson bat knob, and it finally shows when I can't get it. :(
The new CBA is effecting trades this year for sure. I've always liked Greinke. He's always seriously underrated in fantasy baseball. I feel like the Yankees would have already made a deal if they weren't worried about his anxiety. They wanted him before when he was with KC.
Good point. I forgot about that. Well, that makes the swap even better then. I just looked at the rules. They are pretty steep. More steep than I thought.
Any team that exceeds its pool by 0 to 5% must pay a 75% tax on the amount of the overage. Any team that exceeds its pool by more than 5%...
I thought they originally stated that baseball was not included because the USA would dominate like they did in softball.
I can sorta see the argument that they want the best to compete. Since it wouldn't just be the USA that doesn't have it's best players. Other teams would be missing some...
In a related note D.J. Mitchell and Dustin Ackley are back together again. They both played for my high school. I wonder if they make the only pair of high school and MLB teammates in the league now?
As a Tigers fan I'm ok with this deal. Sanchez, and Infante help now. Especially Infante considering he's not Raburn. Anything with life is better than Raburn.
Also, while Turner could end up being good at some point, the Tigers have other guys that they can turn to just as easily. As of right...
It might just be me, but it's seems like the Marlins haven't pulled a deal for any minor leaguers since Hanley that have panned out. They've gotten a bunch of high level prospects who just fizzle.
I don't see the Tigers giving up Castellanos for anything other than a guy that's signed beyond this year. In some ways I doubt they are super anxious about doing anything drastic considering they aren't losing anyone of importance next season.
Also, he's starting to play LF some. Why mess with...
