This might be the first year I have to get my Tigers-Orioles tickets ahead of time. I'm glad for Baltimore. Even though they aren't my team, they have my favorite park to watch a game, and it's been dead for years until now.
He's walk issues are strange considering his Japanese career. He had great control before. I wonder if the difference in how we handle off days here is making him more wild.
Are people really not aware that this isn't his first? He almost had 4 last year. One actually happened and three made it to the ninth. If he gets this one it will be 3 so far for him.
I'm not saying it does. I was just noting an example where I feel umps sometimes intentionally have reactionary responses.
It has to be tough for sure. Maybe this happens more than I know, but it would be more refreshing to see umps own up to mistakes like Joyce did. In the long run players...
This doesn't excuse Lawrie for his actions, but part of me wonders if the ump intentionally called strike three on an obvious ball to send a message he didn't like being showed up by Lawrie running to first.
Adam Jones has been my fantasy kryptonite for years. I've always thought this is the year, and then it wasn't. So of course I finally give up on him, and he lives up to his potential.
I think this is less of a trend in young guys signatures, and more of a trend in just how much volume they make them sign at once these days. Compared to the older players of the past who didn't sign mega sessions.
For a keeper league this is a no-brainer. Even for a standard league without keepers you still do this. I don't see Pujols ending up with better stats this year for sure.
Anyone else hate RP? More games are lost across the league in the last 2 innings, than the first 7. Since the start of May the SP has a 1.92 ERA, and they only have 2 wins to show for it.
That, and the Tigers offense is horrible for some reason. They are only averaging a little over 3.5 runs a...
His HRs recently have been lasers. It sounds like his bat is breaking on every one they are so crushed.
It's good to see him back on track. I'm still kinda worried about Marlins Park though. I hope it doesn't diminish his HRs much. Considering he doesn't hit cheap HRs maybe it doesn't.
Yep, when he died in the 60's all the major papers headlined their articles with the greatest player ever died. It's seems weird for today's times, but HR power hitters weren't popular until later. That, and the negative personal aspects of Cobb have made his legacy fade over time.
This is one of my favorite Cobb stories.
After enduring several years of seeing his fame and notoriety usurped by Ruth, Cobb decided that he was going to show that anybody could hit home runs if he chose to. On 5 May 1925, Cobb began a two-game hitting spree better than any even Ruth had...
I don't know how this could come down to anyone other than Cobb and Mays.
Cobb had every record there was other than HRs when he retired. Batted over .320 for 23 straight seasons, and over .400 3 times. Also he is still the holder of the highest career batting average at .366.
One of the...
I was watching that game where Yonder Alonso fell over the wall. They showed you on replay I'm sure of it. I bet I could find it in the mlb.tv archive. I can't remember when it happened in the game though.
That's saying something considering the first HOF vote gave Cobb the most votes. If you go back in time, and look at what the current people of the day thought of the players then, Cobb was considered the best. It wasn't until later when the players were retired that Ruth started growing as a...
