I'm not really around. I'll eventually come back to collecting, and a still do a little. For me my second kid (who's now almost 6) becoming a toddler was the earnest fade to being active on message boards.
I do it on a case by case basis. My post office treats anything in a bubble mailer as a package. So...I can either pack the crap out of the card in a pwe...which I charge $2 for on low end stuff...or do the standard $5.50 or whatever it is and do the bubble mailer. If its close to say $15-20...

Article from 2007. Basically the theory is that its so the 9 hitter has a better chance of being on base for the 2-4 hitters.

The batting 8th thing was more strategic that a statement on the hitting ability of the pitcher.
I think the Cardinals did it a bunch a few years ago then it was sporadically copied more recently.

I love the base set. Clearly with 1998 UD3 being my favorite set, random gaudy design elements, done with vigor yet following some principals of organization, have a place in my heart. Most sets kinda sleepwalk through it these days. This one does not.
As a Brewers fan, I don't get it. Melvin's forcing a lefty into the #5 starter competition again. I'd rather have Aoki as a OF4 if they're going to hand the job to Davis. Granted, that's not where Aoki's value is as a player and he probably would not have been happy with it, but certainly they...
I'm going to clff notes this from memory...it was right about average i think....due to below average color quantity, not auto selection.
Autos
Dominic Smith Black Wave / 50
Jonathon Crawford Green /75
Riley Unroe ref
Dustin Peterson ref
Tom Windle
Blake Taylor
Tim Anderson x2
Aaron Judge x2...
OK, so my (pre-bought) case should finish it's odyssey and arrive at my house tomorrow, but I still had the time tonight, so I did this.
I left the first page as my pre-release predictions, but I took data from completed auctions and BIN (can't get the BO data easily enough) both tonight as...
I was watching when that aired and chuckled at that one....fwiw I did not happen a guess at that one.

They're not there yet and the hype isn't there yet. I'd assume Kris Bryant would be higher were he included. He has the hype.

No no...this thread is 10 days old. The prices were predictions before release. It got bumped this weekend

Good god I wish my case would get here....no indication it isn't sitting in the front room of a Post Office in the seller's hometown right now....he said he shipped it Friday, and no tracking info other than the electronic notification when you print a label...this was a presell, waiting this...
Really hard to say with reds and supers, because collectors of certain players have deeper pockets than others. But a Reese McGuire went for 610, and his base sell similarly.
Meanwhile, still no tracking info on my pre-bought case....

I'm at work so I don't have my handwritten spreadsheet, but it's something like:
1a Meadows
1b Frazier
big drop
3 Gray
4 Smith
5 Cluster of 7 guys

Its still a small sample size, but only 5 listed as compared to 15-20 of most base autos is what I was going on. The discrepancy is big enough to note at least, imo.
What's going against it is the presence of regular refractors as well as base autos.

Since I'm bored with no case coming until mid-next week (i'll break down the seller's ineptitude when I post my break) I did some research. This tidbit doesn't really deserve its own thread:
It appears as though base autos for Cord Sandberg and Jonathan Crawford are SP. Not a guarantee at this...
